What do babysitters get paid in Nashville?
Can anyone tell me what a mature 22 yr. old would get paid to babysit in the Brentwood and greater Nashville area? Do parents pay more more for more than one child? Thank you.

gary, apparently your definition of a nanny and mine are vastly different. I think of a nanny as someone in permanent employment. This sounds like someone coming if for an evening when the parents go out. NO?

my point is in relation to the age and maturity of this 22 year old... My experience with babysitters is that they are of high school age and are paid about $7 an hour... A 22 year old who has chosen this "career path" seems to have veered off track or aspires nanny like employment... I would be uncomfortable paying minimum wage to an adult off the books...

A twenty-two year old might well be a college student doing baby sitting at night to help pay for under grad or grad school. The OP said nothing about a full-time job - which would presumably be paid by the week and not the hour.
IMHO babysitters - watching kids at night when parents go out - do get more for more than one child and usually get more for infants - many in NYC won;t sit infants at all. (When I was in high school I sat for people with 4 small kids and got paid double - since most sitters wouldn't work for them at all.) Can't comment on hourly rates in that area.
If the OP is asking about a full-time job - the conditions and requirements of the work would have to be specified. (Live in or out, responsibilities, if the parent supply a car, hours, etc)

Perhaps the 22-year-old in question is a college student looking to earn a little extra money. Or anty number of other temporary scenarios.
Juldie, if the Craigslist link didn't answer your question, I know some teenagers in the area I could ask. My personal opinion from my babysitting days is that yes, more children should equal more pay, although you need not double the rate for two children.

A babysitter is an on-call child watcher. A nanny is a (more or less) permanent position working for one family. Doesn't matter how old the babysitter is. Lots of babysitters do it to supplement income--college students, stay at home moms who sit only when husband is home, grandma types on social security ,etc.
My daughters will sit occasionally, usually for friends of friends visiting from out of town. They get $15/hr for 1 child, and about $5 more for each additional kid in Honolulu. One daughter did some babysitting in NYC and got $25/hr for 2 kids, plus cab fare home if they were out after 11 pm.

Seriously, Gary, what's your problem? Maybe this 22 year old is very mature but with the difficult job market he/she is looking for some money to supplement not having a permanent income. Lighten up! Why do you care? It's not your kid who "veered off track" is it? I'm not nor will ever be a babysitter or nanny, but last I heard there was nothing wrong with that type of employment. What do you suggest-leaving the kids home alone?

I also forgot to mention that maybe the person could call Vanderbilt and talk to someone over at Peabody. Their Education school is the best and I'm sure there are babysitter positions available, and maybe someone could give you a better ballpark for what Vandy students are charging?

Just to set the record straight this post is about a college student who completed an internship with children and who was asked to babysit. This person is looking to supplement income, saving for graduate school. It will be very part time.

lcuy..Wow I need to have my daughter use your rates. She is a 21 year old college student who sits two days a week for a mother of four. She gets $3.00 per hour per kid, meaning if she has all four she gets $12 an hour.
She would love your daughter's rate. These kids are not easy kids to watch. My niece is here visiting and experienced DD's day and wanted to know what is 'special' about the kids my daughter watches.
