Was Nathan Lane scheduled to be on vacation this week...

or is this as a result of the tragedy in NYC? I am curious, because as these Broadway shows suffer and the Mayor is trying to encourage people to go out and see shows, it isn't much incentive if the stars are on vacation. Does anyone know if this was planned in advance?

Don't know the answer to your question, but here's a quick story. The other night, Wednesday at about 7:30, Matthew Broderick was walking down 8th Ave. in front of me dressed very casually in jeans with a backpack and carrying a motorcycle helmet. We watched him cross over 8th and head down the street to the theatre, and decided to watch for a second to see if anyone in line recognized him. Wouldn't you know it, but he walked right in the front door and nobody said a word.

Yes, Nathan Lane was scheduled to take his vacation this week. He returns on Tuesday, I believe.

I purchased tickets to The Producers the first day they went on sale--could have had my pick of dates. I chose 9/23 because I like NYC in the fall. On Sept 5 I received a message on my answering machine & a letter in the mail informing me that Nathan Lane would be on vacation from Sept 18-23 (bummer!!) His replacement was wonderful but I sure would have enjoyed seeing the real thing.

Nathan Lane performed Friday night, Sept. 28, and took part that afternoon in a commercial involving most all actors currently on Broadway which was taped in Times Square (they all sing "New York, New York," part of the campaign to get visitors back to the city.
