walking around
I'd like to know how long it would take me to walk all the way around each island. Is it even possible to do so? I want to leave my wife as a starting marker at point A, then head east, not driving no bus but only walking, and walk around... hopefuly finding her still at the same spot where I left her. Ifcourse she could cheat by walking west thereby shortening my trip; so could someone watch her to make sure she stayes put.

It's possible, but not easy. It is 126 miles around Oahu.
Here is a route that I saved from an article a while ago. Sorry, I lost the reference. A Catholic group was doing this as a charity fundraiser, so that's why it seems to go from church to church. They aren't really going out of their way to include the churches, but i'm guessing you could speed up the pace a bit.
The one section they leave out is the road around Diamond head. I'm not sure why, that's one of the nicest view walks on the island. There is a running race (a relay, IIRC) that circles the island in a day or two.
Circumnavigating Kauai would be shorter, but getting around Kalalau would be a bit tricky due to the cliffs. Molokai would be shorter still, but again, cliffs may make it impractical. Hawaii and Maui would be really long walks.
<blue>Circumnavigating Oahu :What’s the route?
Day 1) Monday, March 23: Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace to Kapolei (22 miles). Bishop Street, Nimitz Highway, Kamehameha Highway, Farrington Highway, Fort Weaver Road, Roosevelt Avenue, Fort Barrette Road, Farrington Highway.
2) Tuesday, March 24: Kapolei to Kaena Point (23 miles). Farrington Highway
3) Wednesday, March 25: Kaena Point to Sts. Peter and Paul Mission, Waimea (19 miles). Kaena Point, Farrington Highway, Mahinaai Street, Crozier Drive, Waialua Beach Road, Haleiwa Road, Kamehameha Highway.
4) Thursday, March 26: Sts. Peter & Paul Mission to Kualoa Ranch (25 miles). Kamehameha Highway.
5) Friday, March 27: Kualoa Ranch to St. George Church, Waimanalo (25 miles). Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe Bay Drive, Mokapu Saddle Road, Mokapu Boulevard, North Kalaheo Avenue, Kailua Road, Wanaao Road, Keolu Drive, Kalanianaole Highway.
6) Saturday, March 28: St. George Church to Our Lady of Peace Cathedral (24 miles). Kalanianaole Highway, Waialae Avenue, Kapahulu Avenue, Kalakaua Avenue, Ala Moana Boulevard, Punchbowl Street, King Street, Likelike Street, Beretania Street, Bishop Street.
Participants will walk on the sidewalk or, where there is no sidewalk, the shoulder of the road. Rain will not prevent any walking. </blue>

PS: if I was your wife, I'd head to a nice spa, have some beauty treatments and a massage, then go to a nice hotel and some great reataurants until you started getting close. Then I'd race back to my spot. I'm sure any chaperone would be happy to do all this with her instead of hanging around in one spot!

The Big Island, Hawaii, is very big. It takes about 7 hours to drive around. You cannot walk around the shoreline because part of it is covered with fresh lava, which is very dangerous. Other parts are dangerous because of cliffs and surf.

When I thought Kauai, I thought it would be the best island for a walk about, but clearly does not fit into the posted parameters of a walk around. that would be quite difficult to traverse the miles between the end of the road on the west shore and the end of the road on the northshore. I guess you could do a loop using the powerline trail if a loop matters. Lcuy so far gives the only reasonable answer in regards to the specifics of your question. I think its cute you would rather walk a hundred miles while your wife waits for you rather then spend time in paradise with her. . . . ?
