Victoria/Vanc. Island: not sooke harb. house

we've now stayed two years in a row at sooke harbour house (FABULOUS!!!) and although i'd love to go again, my husband wants a change this year. we need to be relatively close to victoria as our daughter will be for one night with her grandparents. any recommendations on a fabulous bb or inn with great views...preferably on or right near the water? please email me at [email protected]

thanks! bean

It's not terribly close to Victoria, but not that far either. However, Yellow Point Lodge must be mentioned because it is splendid. Not as plush as Sooke perhaps, but very nice indeed. This is about 30 minutes south of Naniamo on 150 acres upon a rock outcropping in the straight, therefore surrounded on three sides by water. The lodge itself is great, but the outlying cottages are outstanding. Cottages dot the property east of the lodge and range from rustic but comfortable beach accommodations to cliff cabins with potbelly stoves and plush multiple room cabins with all the trimmings. The beach cabins have one entire wall that opens to the beach.

I agree Sooke Harbour House IS wonderful. You may want to try in Victoria itself the Oak Bay Beach Hotel which I prefer when I want to stay in Victoria. It's also wonderful. Check it out at this URL: http://www.oakbaybeachhotel.bc.ca/

Oak Bay is very nice, but be sure to request a room on the water side. Do not accept otherwise. The hotel bar is quite popular and very disruptive to guests on the land side of the property, particularly at about 2 in the morning!
