Vegas Bellagio or Venetian?

Money is not an object. Which one is nicer? I do not have children.

Close call but bellagio is under construction now so depending on when you're going, you might want to check with teh hotel and see how invasive it will be. I think they are out by teh pool working on the new tower so if you don't like the sound of jackhammers...some folks were complaining last week.

I am going at the end of July. Do you think it will be going on then?

Ah, Shari, apparently you didn't get the word, but Danny (the editor) has decided there will be no more LV postings until further notice. Especially about hotels and restaurants. Fodors is featuring Utah and Mississippi for the balance of June. Presumably these are underserved states. I understand he's not discriminating against LV - others covered under the ban include nyc, nj (especially nj), HI, anything on the east coast of FL, sedonia, napa valley, NE US (anything within 100 miles of the berkshires), wdw/orlando, tx (any town) and directions to or from newark airport or philly.

The construction will be going on for probably the good part of the next year. The question is, will any portions of the pool area be closed when you are there. You can call the hotel and see what they say. There was a controversey last month when Mirage didn't tell any of their future guests that the pool would be entirely closed and people shoed up and ended up having to move to another hotel. If the pool is a big deal for you and Bell vs. V is a tossup, then the safe bet would be Venetian. If there was no construction, I'd pick Bellagio, there's just something about the place that I like, but it's tough to argue against Venetian. Call Bellagio and see what they tell youabout construction. Ask what time in the morning it starts...

Shari: good gravy, you cannot go wrong with either! construction aside..Bellagio has this garden inside..the smell of the flowers..you just wanna sit there all day. The Venetian has that great dome ceiling with the sky & the gondola rides. Both are luxurious & you can tell the diff in the people that hang out there too.Make sure you hit Caesars..it has a big indoor mall..you being a female and all..The Rio, off the strip is a great hotel too.

We had problems with construction at the Venetian last August as they were building a new wing of rooms. Not sure if it's still going on or not.

Shari, I just got back from Vegas a couple weeks ago. Since money is no object, I would recommend the Bellagio over the the Venetian- it's known for it's luxury. Though spending some time at the Venetian should be on your list. If you are willing to move a bit off the main drag, The Rio is excellent for lodging- all rooms are suites. Have a great time and good luck.

Might I suggest that if money is no object, you find out which one is more likely to comp rooms and food, and gamble your way to the perks. Put several grand on deposit and hit the tables.

While Shari did say that money was no object, the last comment makes no sense from the standpoint of financial management. Comps end up costing more than paying for whatever service is being comped. The casino gives you a small percentage of total money gambled but that percentage is always (on average, over time) much smaller than the gambling losses which prompted them.
Simple economics. That's how casinos stay in business and that's why they don't mind giving comps.

Comps are simply the casino's means of investing in luring you in. It tickles me how people brag they "con" casinos by appearing to be heavy betters in order to get comped. Casinos send coupons to thousands and thousands for a free night, and people immediately think they're getting a freebie vacation. How is this any different from those time share freebies people receive.

I vote for the Bellagio, which is more upscale and luxurious, particularly in the pool area.

Thank you all so much. I got a room at the Bellagio overlooking the *lake.* They said that construction is in the back of the property and assured me that I would not hear anything.

Surfer, do you suppose danny's discrimination in favor of utah and mississippi has anything to do with yesterday's supreme court ruling?

If it weren't for certain types of "discrimination" neither Utah nor Mississippi would still exist!
