Vacation rentals in Tucson

We are in Tucson now and have been looking for a month long rental next winter. We have looked on vrbo, home away and several other sites.

There do not seem to be realtors who deal with vacation rentals.

Every single rental we have tried is full, even after the gem show,

We need to stay under 4,000/ month, two bedrooms, strong preference for house over condo, views a plus., not way out of town.

Any ideas of another avenue to follow?

We really would like to come back.

Thanks

jubilada, A little confused. Are you saying that you can't find a winter rental for 2015? I just went on VRBO, put in the month of Feb 2015 and there were a lot of places. Many of them were over your budget or were condos. But plenty of availability. I saw this little house. Don't know if it fits your location. February is definitely the most expensive time for Tucson. As you know and can see with this place it's $4000 for the month of Feb but only $2950 for March. Could you come in Jan or March? http://www.vrbo.com/191080

I did see some others but weren't sure exactly what you were looking for.

What about this one? Even cheaper. http://www.vrbo.com/154898

Maybe you've already contacted the owners about these places but their calendars look wide open.

paula, many places appear to be open on their calendars but are not. Woolen do not update or their house is for sale and they cannot commit etc.
I have fully explored vbro, believe me.

I need to come in Feb, neither Jan nor March will do though I could possibly do mid feb to mid march.
I am really seeking non vrbo or home away or Craigslist etc ideas, though I appreciate your responding.

Foothills Properties on N. Swan handles vacation rentals and used to cover the whole area. It's worth a phone call. Recently friends have had good luck with them as well as VRBO. One problem is that renters often book a place they like for years in advance. Good luck finding a place you like.

If all else fails, there are two Extended Stay America hotels that have full kitchen, living room and HD TV.
They are less than $90/night.

jubilada, I figured that was the case. There were quite a few condos, many of them in Ventana Canyon so I would think at least a couple of them would be open. I'd rather do a condo than stay at the Extended Stay. Good luck.

I am not open to extended stay, for several reasons, but thanks

Most of the ventana canyon condos are booked too, and/ or second floor.

I really dislike most condo complexes but might settle for one if we could find one.

Have a call into foothills; that have some nice looking properties but no indication of availability.

So I just talked to someone at Foothills.
They will not discuss one month rentals until the fall as owners prefer( of course) three month rentals( I would also prefer three months but am still working) .
I could check back in the fall, but I don't think we can wait thAt long given the givens.

Sigh

That sucks about Foothills. I definitely wouldn't want to stay in a extended stay either. I hope you have some luck. Is the place you are staying this year already booked for next? For the last 5 years my family has been renting a place in Scottsdale for Memorial Day weekend, a big family GTG. Now of course the end of May is not really high season in Arizona, but after our second stay she has always let me know first if someone is interested in the place for those dates. I think owners are happy to get renters that they know will not ruin the place.

Sorry you are having trouble finding a short term, i.e., 1 month rental. Hopefully Foothills will come through in the fall. This is pretty much the situation with those rentals being hard to find.

We love the place we are now but it is already rented for next winter. We are considering reserving for 2016 now, but can't afford 4 weeks there easily at all. We will book for two weeks, maybe., because it is a fabulous house.

Both last year and the year before we found wonderful rentals for Feb in the prior March.
The baby boomers are here!
My problem with waiting until fall is that other destinations will already be booked, so if nothing turns up we will be out of luck.

We will get on a list for fall, but make refundable plans for somewhere else, I guess.

Will also post an add on Craigslist.

Some things are turning up, so a little more hopeful.
