Tuscaloosa this spring, drive to Memphis?
My husband and I will be going to a friends wedding in Tuscaloosa in April. From there we want to go to Memphis and then on to Harrison to visit the in laws. If we drive to Memphis is there any place on the way in Mississippi to check out or spend the night? Or should we just drive straight thru?
I have never been to this part of the country (with the exception of a trip to new orleans long ago) and am looking forward to it!

My husband and I drove from Tuscaloosa to Memphis and back last year. The total driving time is only about 4-5 hours if I recall. The lovely town of Oxford, MS, (Faulkner, Ole Miss) is on the route we took back. Lots of places to stay but we just drove thru. Also, we passed through Tupelo, Elvis' boyhood home. Many places there also. If you want a different experience, try to drive at least a few miles on the Natchez Trace Parkway. No advertising and lovely scenery. Get a good map of Mississippi. Have fun and enjoy the short trip.

Tupelo and Oxford would be great places to stop at along the way.
Tupelo: If you or your husband like antique cars a new automobile museum opened this past year just off Hwy 45 and of course Elvis' birthplace is close by. If you are looking for lodging, I recommend the Courtyard by Marriott or the brand new Holiday Inn Express. Check out http://tupelo.net
Oxford: Take a stroll along the Courthouse Square. Besides interesting shops including Square Books, there are some wonderful restaurants including Ajax Diner (great for lunch), City Grocery, and the Downtown Grill. Check out http://www.touroxfordms.com
