Tulip Festival

Has anyone been to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in April? We're thinking about going in mid-April. Suggestions for things to do, places to stay would be appreciated.

It's beautiful when the tulips are in bloom, but it is impossible to predict exactly when that will be, and the folks in Skagit Valley don't make it easy for visitors to know before hand the extent of the blooming.

La Conner is a center for lodging near the tulip fields.

Deception Pass, Penn Cove, and Coupeville are near by attractions. Take the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor (or Orcas) or from Coupeville to Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula.

Where are you coming from? If you are relatively close, then it is probably worth it. It is generally worth a day or two at most, so I wouldn't organize a whole trip around it unless you are within driving distance, IMHO.

It's beautiful. You can pick up a tourguide at one of the growers. You have to get into the fields with your camera. It's not like in Holland, with the Kuekenhof - no huge display garden. There are some small display gardens, but mostly fields and fields you can walk into. Best of all are the Indian ladies with vivid silk saris and the little girls in their fancy Easter dresses, posing in the flowers for their loved ones. Happy Trails lists good attractions outside of the gardens.

If the tulips are late, there should still be daffodils: http://gardyloo.us/DSC_0077c.jpg

We are coming from Denver, CO and plan to be in the area for a week. The Tulip Festival is one thing we wanted to check out.

Thanks to you all for your input.

I am Happy Trails, and this is what I listed: "Deception Pass, Penn Cove, and Coupeville are nearby attractions. Take the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor (or Orcas) or from Coupeville to Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula."

If you have time, desire, and passports, you could drive up north to Vancouver BC and see a fabulous city. It should be really beautiful in April. Or Victoria, BC.
