Help! Need Ideas for Day Trips around Whidby/Anacortes ASAP!
We are going to Anacortes in two days and will be based there for two weeks. We are looking for side trips to ORCA overnight 2-3 days or any other interesting islands nearby.
Need names of good places to stay from 1-3 nights please and suggestions for highlights we shouldn't miss.
We are not serious hikers, but love to walk and explore by car and by foot.
Nothing too strenuous, in otherwords. Immediate help would be greatly appreciated.

You should take a ferry trip to Victoria for a day or overnight. You could leave at 8am and be back around 8pm, with about 7 hours in Victoria. Of course, overnight would be better.
A driving loop would be to take the Anacortes ferry to Sidney (just outside of Victoria), then take the Black Ball (Coho) ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles. Explore the Olympic Peninsula, then drive to Port Townsend and take the ferry to Clinton. From there, it a short drive over Deception Pass to Anacortes.
Drive to the top of Mt. Erie, just south of Anacortes, near Lake Campbell. On a nice day, some of the best views around.
As noted above, Deception Pass is a great place. Have a picnic lunch on Rosario Beach, which has grills, a shelter, and some nice views. There are good short walks from there to the next bay and on over to Deception Pass.
Another good scenic picnic/short walk place is Washington State Park, just beyond the Anacortes Ferry dock.

The towns of Coupeville and Langley on Whidbey are very enjoyable and picturesque, as is La Conner just south of SR 20 on the mainland.
Also don't overlook day trips east on SR 20 from Anacortes up to the North Cascades NP. Check out Seattle City Light's very enjoyable "Diablo Dam Good Dinner Tour" - see http://www.seattle.gov/light/tours/skagit/sk5_ross.htm - for mountains, boats, and fried chicken.
The Boeing/Future of Flight tour in Mukilteo is also reasonably convenient - just drive down Whidbey to the Clinton ferry and it's a short hop on the mainland. Biggest building in the world and the source of the US's largest foreign exchange earner.
Sometimes the whale watching from Lime Kiln State Park on San Juan Island is very good. Enquire locally. I'd personally discourage going on organized whale chasing tours from Friday Harbor or Victoria, but others may disagree.
IIRC the Island County Fair may be starting up while you're there. It's small but pretty enjoyable as a rule. On Whidbey.
