Traveling from Fort worth to Destin fl

This Summer my family and I were hoping to travel from Fort Worth Texas to Destin Florida( either in June or July). We are wanting to stay in Destin fl for 4 days. We were wanting to leave Fort Worth on a Saturday morning (around 4 am) and to Try to arrive in Destin that evening around 6-7pm . My question is what is the shortest and best scenic route traveling from fort worth tx to destin fl? This is our first road trip together as a family and we have younger riders( age 7-8).

We've made that trip a couple of times - frankly it's a bore.

Depending on the route you choose it's about 730 to 760 miles from Fort Worth to Destin so figure a minimum of 11.5 hours (regardless of route) of driving assuming you use one of the Interstate routes I mention below and average 65 miles per hour. Add extra time for stop for meals, gas and restroom breaks. There are really only two basic routes, neither of them are particularly "scenic". Route A - Take I-20E to Jackson, Ms. then US 49S to Mobile where you pick up I-10E on to Destin. Route B - I-20E to Shreveport where you pick up I-49S to US190E at Opelousas then on to I-10 just outside of Baton Rouge and on to Destin.

You can plot out the best routings and get "turn by turn" directions using either Google Maps or Mapquest.

Good luck.

@RoamsAround -DId you and your family do a straight drive or did you drive so many miles(hours)one day and do the rest the next day. Did you leave early in the morning or at night?

Thanks RoamsAround. Thanks for your suggestions and input. I thought we might take Route A, going and coming. I'm thinking that it would be best for us to also stop every 3-4 hours to stretch and do restroom breaks.

We've done both "straight through" and "over night stop" - it really depended on how we felt for the particular trip. Regardless of our method we always start out in the morning (sometimes early, sometimes a bit later. There's no right or wrong answer - just different options.

Yes, you'd be wise to stop every so often for a "meal/restroom break" - again how often and how long a stop depends on your particular circumstances at that time.
