Traveling by car from NE PA to Sturbridge MA
We are attending a wedding on 10/1 in Sturbridge, MA but plan to leave Thursday night 9/27 from PA & spend a relaxing time traveling. We will have Friday & 1/2 day Sat. & then Sunday on the way back.
Not sure if traveling along the beaches is a nice sight or if its too cold or if the leaves will be changing then & going a different route would be better.
Any suggestions - we want just to have it relaxing - not packed tight with things to do but we enjoy beach/ little hiking, visiting quaint towns & shops & even fairs, community events etc.
Thanks for any tips!

Any interest in an Audubon Guided bird walk? http://www.ctaudubon.org/center-at-pomfret/
Using I-84 it is only 4.5 hours from Scranton PA to Sturbridge.

A suggestion that's about 1-1/2 hours out of your way is to go to the Mystic/Groton area. Mystic is pretty, lots to do. You can board Ship Nautalis in Groton. I don't think it will be too cold but we have had a lot of rain. Our leaves haven't really started to change yet.

The idea to detour to Mystic is a good one. The rest of the Connecticut coast has beaches but not particularly quaint towns or scenic. In the other direction you could detour up to Stockbridge Mass in the Berkshires. They might have a little leaf color going on by next weekend. Or if you didn't want to go that much out of your way (not really very far) you could try Litchfield Connecticut but I doubt there would be any color there next weekend.
As you will be in Sturbridge itself, are you going to visit Old Sturbridge Village?

We will be Staying at Sturbridge Host on Sat. night as that is where the reception will be. We've been to Old Sturbridge village before.
We like the idea of the beach area - Friday will be the day that we will have free & the morning of Sat. traveling to Sturbride & can stop along the way- is there any fairs or events on Sat. near Sturbridge?
Sunday we will be going through Western Part of MA down to coming through the western part of MA & CT & NY? 84 to 684 -287 - anything fun to see along the way?

To find out about events like fairs in CT, go to www.ctvisit.com There is a similar site for all of New England, you can google it to find out about MA.
