Most people rent a car or van, if have furniture...
If you don't drive or have money for rental, your only choice would be the train.
Amtrak does go from Denver to Sacramento, California and then to Portland, Oregon. They do not charge for luggage but i don't know if there is a limit. If you know where you are going to live in Portland, you could ship some luggage ahead.
More information from you would help posters answer your questions better.
On Amtrak I believe you can check 2 bags up to 50 lb.
If you have a trusted friend in Portland, you could mail or FedEx a package.

The California Zephyr leaves Denver after 8AM every day.
It arrives in Sacramento mid afternoon the day after (31 hours).
The Coast Starlight leaves Sacramento at midnight but you should be in the station before 10:30 to be safe.
The one way fare is about $200 from Denver to Portland.
Riding the train in coach is much better than riding a bus.
For a fee, you can store your bags at the baggage area in Sacramento and walk around Old Sacramento for a few hours.
How are the plans coming?
If you take the train, you will love the view of the Glenwood Canyon before you get into Glenwood Springs. You will go through Salt Lake City in the early morning hours.
Ship your luggage/packed boxes on the bus, but take the train.
You'll enjoy the trip. Or as an alternative, post on Craigslist
rideshare offering to help drive from Denver to Portland.
