Transportation from midtown to Bronx Zoo, THEN transportation from Bronz Zoo to Yankee statium?
Hello all,
I have been trying to figure out how to travel from midtown (Belvedere Hotel) to the Bronx zoo and then go from there to Yankee statium.I could take a cab but, would like to save some expense. I would like suggestions with a bus or subway. This will be my first day into NYC so, I'll need a crash course on using the subway system. We plan on visiting the zoo during the day and then head over around 5:00 to go to a Yankee game at 7:00. I appreciate any help with this. Thankyou

You can take the subway for both trips. Since the Belvedere is on 48th St and 8th Ave, you can walk 2 blocks to 50th St and take the uptown C train one stop to 59th St/Columbus Circle and then go upstairs and transfer to the uptown 2 train to East Tremont Ave.
Here's a link to the NYC MTA subway map: http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm.

From the Zoo to Yankee Stadium, you can take the downtown 2 or 5 train from the East Tremont station to 149th St/Grand Concourse, then transfer to the uptown 4 train and take it just 1 stop to 161st St/Yankee Stadium. Although you are giving yourself 2 hours (5PM to 7PM) to get from the Zoo to the Stadium, it should probably take only about 30-40 minutes. I'm assuming that you are going on a weekday; sometimes the wait for the train on the weekend can be as long as the actual trip. You should take advantage of the extra time to visit Monument Park located behind left field at Yankee Stadium. Monument Park closes 45 minutes before gametime. Go there before you go to your seats. Enter the Stadium via Gate 2 which is the closest to the 4 train exit. That is the closest entrance to Monument Park, bear left once you're through the gates. The 45 minutes you have between when Monument Park closes and the game begins is enough for you to get a hot dog, beverage, and scorecard and find your seat.
I hope your legs are strong, I haven't been to the Zoo in a while but I think there are lots of stairs at the train station (the 2,4,and 5 are elevated in the Bronx) and there's lots of walking involved.
If you are going back to your hotel after the game, take the downtown D train (the entrance to which is underground, below where you exited the 4 to get to the game) to 59th St/Columbus Circle and then transfer to back to the downtown C for one stop to 50th Street.
Enjoy!

A little clarification on the previous post. You can't get the #2 train at the 59th St. Station, You have to take a #1 or #9 to 72nd St. where you cross the platform to transfer to the #2 train. Suggest you forget entering the subway at 50th and 8th for the C train. Walk one more block to 50th and Broadway and take the #1 or #9 to 72nd St. where you transfer to the #2 train. When entering the train, going, You will be traveling "UPTOWN"

Oh, thanks so much for your info. This helps alot since, it will be our first day in NYC and it helps to know what you are doing so, you don't spend your time trying to figure it out when you get there. Thanks again.
