The Most Beautiful Building In Los Angeles? Perhaps The Central Library!

Sometimes I get lucky. Once again I was the only person on a tour last week, and what an unexpected experience it turned out to be. The Los Angeles Central Library was constructed in the 1920s, and it is the most beautiful building I have visited this year (believe it or not, the photo below is of one of its chandeliers). Fortunately my docent was patient as I took dozens of photos of this remarkable place. Come on my tour of the Los Angeles Central Library (click below)…not to worry, you don’t need a library card! BTW, if you take the tour in person...it's FREE!

It is beautiful, I made many visits to it. I used to live in LA and Santa Monica for many years and had a gig being piano accompanist to a couple dance studios/companies and would go down to the main library as they have an amazing music collection. They had a lot of sheet music that wasn't even in print any more than I needed for some ballet scores.

Thanks. My wife and I visited the Library a few years ago and were impressed, as you were. but we didn't take a guided tour so we didn't get the same depth of the experience that you did. Good job!

And there is the lovely Cafe Pinot just outside the entrance to the library.

Beautiful library and great pictures. Were there many people actually reading books there?

Tom, these posts of yours re: CA buildings and discoveries have been a revelation. Love reading your links and looking at the photos, and looking forward to seeing some of these on our next visit.

maitai… got your report on the Cotswalds this morning. A real cheer-up on a grey, gloomy day in NYC. Are you still hung up on Sticky Toffee Pudding?
(Thanks to you there are some in my freezer as I type.)

Absolutely. In Pasadena, the Rose Tree Cottage sells a fantastic Sticky Toffee Pudding.
