So we land around 2:30 pm at LGA on Sunday, June 10. I figure we'll get to our hotel in Midtown by say, 5. I've already scoped out some restaurants that are open Sunday night so we can get an easy-but-tasty early dinner. Then what? A lot of the museums seem to close by 6 or 7 on Sunday. Other plans for our week include a food tour in Greenwich Village, seeing Bodies exhibit at Southstreet, seeing a couple of Broadway shows, and hitting museums- hope that gives you an idea of our interests. If it's nice we could probably check out some of Central Park, or maybe gawk at the madness which is Times square, but I'd like to figure out some indoor alternatives. Nothing too ambitious, but I don't want to end up watching TV in the hotel room! Thanks in advance!

That's a tough one. I'd actually be suprised that any museum is open past 6 at the very latest. It's also a little early in the summer for concerts etc in Central Park.
You may be able to get into the city earlier than 5, but good that you're not counting on it

Since that's a night you apparently won't be going to the theatre, why not take advantage of that fact and head off to the Village, Soho, Upper West or East side,or even up to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, or anywhere that you can have a nice dinner and do a little neighborhood walking, maybe stop somewhere else for a dessert and coffee or a nightcap?

And if you would want to do some more theatre, Sunday night is a pretty good night for off-Broadway productions. There are some great ones right now. I loved Crazy Mary, the new Gurney play we saw this past Sunday evening starring Sigourney Weaver. Next Sunday evening we're seeing the new off Broadway musical that has already been planned for a move to Broadway next season -- In the Heights.

I would recommend Top of The Rock (http://www.topoftherocknyc.com/ODTStatic/site.htm)

and after walk to Times Square where you can rent a Pedicab (rickshaw) for a quick tour of midtown after dark. They can take you up to Central Park and then down 5th Av and show you interesting points in between.

I would do Top of the Rock, then head to one of the cuter areas for a casuale dinner in a sidewalk restaurant and some shopping - window orregular (esp downtown many stores are open until 11). You could do the village, lower east side, sosho, upper west side.

Empire State Bldg, or Top of the Rock. A nightcap in Little Italy. Catch an off-off-Broadway play. Buy a bottle of wine and hang out in Lincoln Center plaza or the Chelsea Piers. Go book store browsing. Window shopping in Soho. What's on at BB King's? But a New Yorker when you get off the plane and be spontaneous. Go to a poetry reading or a performance art venue.

Do they have TVs in hotel rooms in New York?

Another recommendation for the Circle Line Harbor Lights cruise. Make sure you sit on the top deck. After that, I'd head to the Empire State Building and view the city at night, then a grab a late snack or dessert and head to Times Square to view all the craziness.

Head to the Empire State Building after dinner. Have you been there? Lots of fun in the evening.

As for dinner, if you haven't been to Mesa Grill, you ought to go there and then cab it to ESB afterward.

Hi Pisces,
We have a similar "dilemma" in June (I know, free time in NYC, what a hardship - lol!) by the time we arrive and check into our hotel most brunches will be about over and the museums are getting ready to close. We've been to EB and TOTR, and have enjoyed the CircleLine many times. Right now I think we are leaning toward something similar to what Patrick suggested. One member of our group wants to go to Bloomingdales so I think we'll head over there do some window & real shopping in the area, continue up the Eastside and have an early dinner somewhere (hopefully with sidewalk dining) and do a little neighborhood walking.

I think you've gotten pretty much all the options--
>go to a different neighborhood from your hotel, explore a bit and have a nice dinner. If it's a nice night, eat outside. There are some charming restaurants in the village and elsewhere with pretty gardens. Le Jardin Bistro and Gascogne are 2 that come to mind.

Just an FYI - Sunday June 10th is the first broadcast of the last episode of The Sopranos - an extremely popular show in Manhattan. When this last season premiered 2 months ago, restauranteurs noted a big drop in business that night. You might want to take advantage of that - some very popular restaurants might be easier to get into!!!

When you get NY pick up either Time Out NY or the Village Voice. Each is filled with long lists and ads for theatre, movies, music, art, etc. Thus you can choose somthing to your liking or what you always you wanted to do.

Depending on your home town, there maybe movies, especially indies and foreign films, that you may not get a chance to see.

Now that the summer is upon us there are literally hundreds of outdoor events each week and good restaurants with outside gardens. One very good one is the Jardin Bistro, a block away from the overpriced and over rated Balthazar. Bistro food is steak frite, mussels and fries, salads, roastec d chicken, and not haute French.

These are great suggestions! I'm going with my 17-yr-old little sister, so the wine and clubbing is out, but I'm sure others who run across this thread will be inspired. I mostly want to avoid boxing us into anything with prepaid tickets because I don't want to depend on the airline to be on time. Thanks for giving us some options!
