SUMMER COTTAGE RENTALS ADIRONDACKS
We are a group of 4 families looking to vacation together in cottages on a lake. We love the mountains and are hoping for some great suggestions from you seasoned travellers. We just want to be together, with kids. Would love a place where the kids can enjoy each other, swim and maybe make campfires in the evening. Some of us are on somewhat of a budget, so some of the lesser know lakes might be best for us. Thanks for any input.

The best places int he Adirondacks are always booked up WAY in advance. (There are just so few places.)
You can try Morningside Camps, or Irondequoit in cottages, or Eagle Bay on Big Moose Lake. But you will only get into one of those on the off chance they've had a cancellation and no one on their waiting lists are interested.
Otherwise you should try VRBO.com (renting from owner - somewhate risky but could be fine) or a realtor. Try Gillis Realty, AdirondackbyOwner.com.
Good luck and let us know if you find anything.

HI everyone: Thanks for your replies. We realize the best places book early, which is why we are trying to make plans for summer 2007. I think we'd like to keep it at $1000 or less for the week. We all do like camping, but some of us have little babies which makes it difficult. Would love to find family campgrounds that might have cabins w/electricity/bathrooms. Thanks again.

I can't think of any cabins at camp grounds. The best campgrounds in the Adirondacks are definitely the state campgrounds, but they are relatively primitive (no cabins, electricity, or water at camp site). Many do have flush toilets and showers though. Maybe you could rent RVs? That might be fun.
Speaking from experience, you won't be able to book Morningside for summer 07 (much less for 4 families) so forget that idea. I don't know about the other two I suggested.

my 2 cents not sure about summer rentals there but you should drive to Long Lake (in the adirondacks . its a great little town w sea planes, boat tours, canoeing, bike riding, lounging by the streams, shopping etc. i would def recommend stopping there!!!
