Summer 2016 Group Vacation with young kids

My husband and I are planning a group vacation with two other families for next summer - most likely mid to late June. There will be a total of 6 kids and 6 adults on the trip with the kid's ages ranging from 1-7). We have traveled with these friends before and have always done the South Carolina beach house type vacation and are looking to do something a little different this time. We are traveling from Northeast Ohio (Cleveland/Akron). A few of our possible destination ideas so far have been New England, Lake Tahoe or somewhere in Colorado, but we are interested in any other ideas. Any advice on specific locations within the destinations that I just mentioned would also be helpful. We are not looking for a vacation that would be exclusively city (like NYC or Chicago) and also are not interested in anywhere in Southeast. We have always enjoyed renting a big house together, but would also be ok with a resort type experience in the right location. We are looking forward to hearing any ideas you might have!

There are lots of vacation rental at Tahoe -- and another option is renting 2 or 3 condos in the same complex. Would give you more space/privacy w/o losing any of the togetherness.

Where on the lake is really just personal preference. The vast majority of homes are on the south/west/north shores w/ relatively few on the east/Nevada side. Incline Village (just inside the Nevada state line at the NE corner of the lake or near Tahoe City at the NW corner would be the first two places I'd look.

Just tons for families . . .

The just playing in lake of course, fishing, hiking but also things like:

I'm going to have to respond in more detail later, but we used to take end of summer vacations with two other families and often went to Lake Tahoe (we stayed at various developments including Brockway Springs, Chinquapin, Northstar (great, but not on the lake) and Tahoe Taverns) or a wonderful place called Black Butte near Bend, Oregon. Another great choice would be Sun River, Oregon.

Oh -- great suggestions. Brockway (just barely on the CA side of the state line) or Chinquapin (between the state line and Tahoe City) would be terrific. Both are right ON the lake.

The views are to die for

I haven't been in Tahoe Tavern for years but it would be lovely too.

In Colorado, I can highly recommend Devil's Thumb Ranch. They have all sized and types of lodge rooms and cabins, and a 'bunkhouse' which is less expensive. Great service. Gorgeous property Horses, hiking, zip lining, fishing, golfing nearby, swimming pool, spa. . ..

We have been there many times over the years. It keeps getting better.
