Stone crabs? March? Ft. Lauderdale?
Will be in Ft. L'dale one nite, mid-March. Would very much like to sample stone crabs that I've heard so much about for so long. Will they be in season? How about a rec for a good restaurant to try them? Thanks!

They will be in season, but can't help with a restaurant choice in that area. They are boiled as soon as they are caught (er...ripped off) so will taste the same pretty much anywhere you eat them...you just need the restaurant with the "best" atmosphere to go along with the crabs.

For the ultimate stone crab experience, drive the 40 minutes to Miami and check out Joe's Stone Crab. http://www.joesstonecrab.com/
I love stone crab, btw...I think they're best served cold, with Joe's mustard dipping sauce. Have fun!

Have def heard of Joe's Stone Crabs...for years. But we are flying into Ft. L'dale, will only be there one night (before a cruise). Renting a car just to scoot up to Miami would make that a pretty pricey dinner! Still hoping someone has a Ft. L recommendation.....

It's been a while since I lived in that area, but Charley's Crab used to be pretty nice...right on the water, too. http://www.muer.com/locations/chcrab...ab-ftlaud.html
They always had stone crab when it was in season, but if you decide to try it I'd recommend calling first to be sure...it has been several years since I've been there.
