Depending on the time of day, allow 45 minutes from Port of Miami to Ft. Lauderdale Beach (plus or minus depending on whether it's rush hour or a lazy day).

try to get reservations at Marriott Harbour Beach-- great for having a teenager with you...

But to be honest, I would rent a car ( I think AVIS may still be on site at the pier-but not 100% certain)..and drive up myself...and return car to Ft Lauderdale airport and fly OUT of Lauderdale....one way rentals are no problem in FLA>...

That way, you will have a car to drive around and be able to hit Las Olas Blvd at nite for GREAT restaurants....

If you have no car,you will have to use taxis --------

Thanks guys for all info,
But we are flying into Miami because we are sailing out of Miami. We have a couple of days after our cruise to hang out, where should we go? Do you recomend Miami or Ft lauderdal?
thanks

Have you booked your flight to Miami yet? It's almost always cheaper to fly in and out of Ft. Lauderdale for domestic flights than Miami. The Ft. Lauderdale airport is much more user-friendly than Miami also. From Miami airport to Ft. Lauderdale airport is about 30 minutes with little to no traffic but rush hour traffic can get bad in South Florida. I live in Ft. Lauderdale and work in Miami. I try to avoid the Miami airport at all cost and many people that I know, even those who live in Miami, do the same.

Aaron,
Thanks for the reply. We are flying into Miami using aa miles, we were lucky to get into Florida at all until the begining of next year, otherwise I would have done as you suggested.
What is your thoughts on a inexpensive place (lol) in Ft Lauderdale, beach pref. or should we hang out in Miami for the 2 extra days we have? If so what area?
I really appreciate the time you all take to anwser.

meggss--

If you decide to hang out in MIAMI- get a room in SOUTH BEACH as they are all right across the street from the ocean...

There is a new Loew's hotel...

And for dinner, defintely try Joe's Stone Crabs- a Miami Beach Institution...

I like Ft Laud for the ease of getting around. If you get a limo or some other transportation to your hotel at Ft. Laud beach, you can take the Water Taxi to get to dinner, shopping, Las Olas area, etc.

If you don't want to bid for a room on priceline, call the Radisson Bahia Mar. Someone recently got a buy one night, get the next night free (VISA usually has a special.) You can bid on priceline for the Marriott Harbor Beach, starting around $69/night.
