St. Petersburg, FL..... Is it breezy enough..

to help alleviate the heat in the warmer months? My niece, who moved there a couple of years ago, loves it, and says that she doesn't mind the heat and humidity because the ocean breezes moderate their effects. She says she can open her windows at night, with no A/C, and that the ocean breezes make a huge difference. Anyone else who lives there agree with her? We are thinking of checking out homes there, but I don't like too much heat and humidity! Any Floridians here who live in that area?

Our AC is already on. The only time IMO, it's been cool enough to keep your windows open is after a huge storm (aka hurricane) blows through--and you usually have no choice because the electricity is out! If she lives on the beach I guess it's possible that she gets enough breeze; but I wouldn't want to fall asleep with my windows open!

Thank you, Jayne! I think we will visit St. Pete's next month, and visit at her apartment, and see what it's like. She is not ON the beach, but I don't know exactly where she is in relation to the ocean. Sounds too good to be true to me......... you know, relatives will tell you anything to get you to move!;-)

If you like sweating like hell all night in June, July, and August, you can turn your AC off at night.

However, your power bill will go through the roof from the AC trying to cool your house down enough to make it bearable at 2PM.

It isn't the heat that makes it so uncomfortable but the gawd awful sticky, wet, cut it with a knife humidity.

Your neice either is lying or has left the summer months out of this equation.

I don't want to get bashed for my comment, but we live right on the Gulf of Mexico approx 60 miles north of St. Pete. I DO get a breeze off of the water that feels at least 10 degrees cooler than in town. We do leave the windows open until August, when those breezes don't make a damn bit of difference. Can't open them again until the end of Sept. BUT, I am a native Floridian, so I may be much more tolerant of the humidity.

I have a beach place as well as a home in South Tampa. What she says is true for those who live on the barrier islands, and possibly those who live along Boca Ciega Bay on the backside of the mainland. There are wonderful breezes that really do make a difference during the more humid months. During the height of summer (July & August), those breezes only make an impact in the evening, but they really do cool it down. Big time.

Just wanted to clarify that we don't get those gulf breezes in Tampa.
