St. Bernard's in Taos

I am planning on skiing in Taos with my 6 year old son in January. We have a week long reservation at the St. Bernard Hotel. We got a second-hand fantastic recommendation, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's actually stayed there. I'm worried whether there will be enough to keep a six year old entertained. Last year we went to the Club Med at Crested Butte which was terrific, but they sold the hotel for condominiums (of course). Any comments on your experience at the St. Bernard would be much appreciated.

I've not been there but DH knows it well and says they have great food and it has "old world" feel to it.

They have a kids club geared by various age groups...your son should have a blast! http://www.stbernardtaos.com/kids_club.php

Are you staying in condo or hotel part? Please post back after your stay and let us know how you liked the place.

Taos is really nice, very laid back and more southwestern than places in CO.

Hope this helps...

More info on Taos-- DH says that the skiing there is second to none, the ski valley has a very European feel to it. Life in the ski valley is really about skiing; he says there isn't a lot of apres-skiing activities in the valley. The town is a good 25 minute drive and there are some places for music at night, but again not much. This is the biggest complaint that ski magazines have with Taos -- excellent skiing but that's about it.

Again, hope this helps...

Debi: Thanks very much for the info. Our reservation is for the hotel (not the condos). I'm still toying with the idea of going to Jackson Hole or Montana instead, just so that there are other diversions (like Yellowstone) in case 7 days of skiing doesn't go over well with the boy. Definitely appreciate the inside scoop.

Well, we stayed at the St. Bernard Hotel and it was wonderful. My son actually learned how to ski, and I finally moved from low-intermediate to true intermediate. The ski school is excellent and it is included in the price (as are the lift tickets). Every night the St. Bernard's had a kids program, which my 6-year old really looked forward to. The meals (also included) were marvelous, and presented with flair by the owner, Jean. The staff was kind, attentive and actually knew who we were. So--we're going back next year.
