Snorkel Gear for Keys Trip
My family will be snorkeling in the Keys in April. We're taking a trip with Looe Key Reef Resort and Dive Center and planned on renting our gear from them. It is definately less costly ($9 each)than if we purchased gear for five of us, we're not sure when will be the next time we will snorkel, the kids are growing, etc. I called and they assured me the rental gear is of good quality. Good idea or bad idea?

We have always rented our snorkel gear rather then buy our own and cart it all over the place. For us it's just to much trouble. Just make sure the mask fits well. I ALWAYS buy alcohol swabs and take them with us to clean the mouthpiece before we use them.

As a scuba diver, I have collected a pretty big collection of good quality dive stuff. But for the last few years when I've gone to the Keys, I've only snorkled, so I quit lugging my stuff down there. I've never had a problem with the rental equipment, except sometimes it takes a little getting used to a different type of mask. But it's not a biggie.
This is way better than having to cart all my stuff to the Keys.
