SF: looking for a oyster bar in NYC just like Swan Oyster Depot?

Hello Fellow San Franciscans:

AS a regular visiting SF often, I fell in love with Swan Oyster Depot in the working class neighborhood away from tourist places. With NYC trip coming up next week, I am craving seafood and hope to find a oyster bar similar to this one in SF. Any of you that is familiar with NYC, do you know any?

The only Oyster Bar I know of in the city is in Grand Central Station - I know that may sound odd - but it's been there for umpteen years and is very good.

If you go to menupages.com you will find a listing of 5 or 6 others - but I have no idea how good they are - not being a fan of raw oysters.

The Oyster Bar in Grand Central Terminal is probably the City's most famous. Aquagrill, downtown at Spring Street and Sixth Avenue, offers something like 30 varieties of fresh oysters, from both coasts (www.aquagrill.com).

We made a meal of the raw oysters at the Oyster Bar in GCT and enjoyed oysters at Aquagrill as appetizers. You can't go wrong with either place and they're both atmospheric. If you're a big fan, try both!

The Oyster Bar in GCT is miles away different from Swan Oyster Depot.

Swan is the workingman's oyster place - cheap, fresh, no frills, not much choice.

The Oyster Bar, OTOH, has oysters flown in fresh from all over, so you have a plenitude of choices, but you also paid the price for such exotica.

The oysters are fresh in both places.

But the freshest oysters is to go somewhere where they are picked fresh from the sea and eat them right then and there.

Absolutely, dead on, correct.
