Scenic drive from Seattle, WA to Austin, Tx
We are driving a car for our family that is relocating to Austin, TX. We have no specific schedule to arrive in Texas. We would like to take a scenic route that includes roads less traveled. We want to include stops in New Mexico and West Texas. We would appreciate your advise.

In Texas, we've stopped at Palo Duro Canyon and Davis Mountains on our way to/from Austin. Depends on where in NM you're coming from. Big Bend is another possibility but requires more of a detour south. The drives in between are long and boring until you get to the hill country outside of Austin. What time of year are you doing this?

I would travel through part of the White Mountains of Arizona and on through El Mapais National Monument back to I-40 or Pie Town, NM (best pie ever) and past the VLA (Very Large Array) to I-25. Beautiful areas!

Since New Mexico is what you want on your way to Austin, you could drive down either eastern Utah (Arches, Canyonlands), or western Colorado (Ouray, Silverton), and in both instances visit Mesa Verde before continuing to New Mexico.
