Santa Fe in one day

Hi, I'm going to a conference in Alburque later this week. A friend and I want to do a day trip to Santa Fe. Any recommendations of not-to-miss activities in the area that can be done in one day? Also, any recommendations for hikes, restaurants, bars, other things to do in Alb would be appreciated too! TIA!

bride -- what kinds of things to you want to do in Santa Fe?

As Beachgirl suggested, LOTS has been posted on here recently about Santa Fe and Albuquerque [be sure to spell it correctly or nothing will come up ]. Type in either of those in the search box and see what comes up.

Also, click on the DESTINATION link at the top of the page and read FODORS suggestions for Santa Fe especially. Plaza Walk will hit highlights.

And if you click on my name, you will see lots of similar Q's that I have answered.

This is pretty good for Albuquerque info --

Hope this helps...

I think for a one day drive up I would pull into town,go to the plaza,do a walk around and go have lunch at one of the many great restaurants in town. You'll have to leave the plaza for that. I'd suggest Guadalupa Cafe for a nice local New Mexican lunch. Then take in one of the great museums up on Museum hill( I like the Folk Art museum) and after that while your up there find one of the great public hiking trails that take you up into the foot hills with great views of the city. By then it would probably be time to drive back.

I agree with Artman. Unless there is something sepcific you really want to see, the plaza has it all. The architecture, the churches (Cathedral. Loretto Chapel and San Miguel Mission, and the Native American Culture (the museum as well as the folks selling their work on their blankets in the plaza). It certainly gives you a good feel for what New Mexico is all about in one fell swoop. This is how we spent our first day in NM last week - it was great. Of course, there are TONS of shops as well. A great little find was the crepe restaurant on an Francisco St., on the side of El Fonda Hotel. A good stop for a quick lunch(not SW fare, however - but oyu can get that in ABQ as well as in Santa Fe), soups, sandwiches, crepes as both a meal or dessert!!
