San francisco to Vegas
Hi,I wonder if I can get some advice,I am travelling with my 19yo son visiting first week in April for 6 days, starting in SF,hoping to leave there and go on upto Tahoe for some snowmobiling fun then would like to see some of Yosemite and then onto see the General Sherman tree, through Death Valley and on to Vegas,I have been to Tahoe from Sacramento before at a different time of year (ignored the snowchain warning, one of the scariest moments of my life) and Vegas to many times to count, its the bit in the middle thats a mystery,we love driving so long full day drives with stops are not a problem, suggestions please, will there be too much snow not enough snow, closed roads, things we should or shouldnt be visiting and suggestions on routes (I dont ever want to be in a snowstorm unprepared again) we are looking for the killer views and once in a lifetime experiences, also we want as many days in Vegas as possible without selling ourselves short elsewhere. Thanks

You have six full days for sightseeing? So the day that you fly into San Fran is day one and the day that you leave Vegas is day eight?
Otherwise no you don't have time for all that and nobody knows what the weather will be in April, you'll have to check back in late March and probably revise your plan. Also, rental vehicles do not allow chains.

There is always a chance of snow in the mountains so you really won't know until a day or so before what the weather will be like. April can be really nice or it can be wet/snow.
You're plan is going to involve mostly driving with a quick stop at turn outs to see the sites. It's doesn't allow for much else. I'd drop Lake Tahoe just because it's so far out of your way and it's where you would be more likely to have a spring snow. This will give you more time at the other parks.

Thanks guys, looks like I am being a bit ambitious with our plans,I still need to get from San Fran to Vegas though as we are leaving from there, which route would you take that at least offers us an interesting & safe drive with some nice scenery, can we do it with a one night stop or would it be to exhausting, like I said we are not looking to stop anywhere for 2 nights other than Vegas and driving all day with various pit stops does not bother us.
PS would really like to take in the General Sherman tree if possible.

I would go to Yosemite and spend two nights in Yosemite Valley so that gives you a full day to see the valley. SF to Yosemite VAlley is approx 200 miles and will take 4 hours or more depending on the traffic in the SF bay area. Enter on Hwy 120 if the weather is good and Hwy 140 if the weather is bad.
Drive out the southern entrance on Hwy 41 to Fresno. Take Hwy 180 into Sequoia National Park and exit on 198. Approx 280 miles from Yosemite Valley to Bakersfield via Sequoia. Plan on all day to site see.
Bakerfield to Las Vegas 285 miles and approx 4 hour drive.
