San Francisco Day Parking
Hi,
We're picking up a rental from the airport early and dropping it off late our last day. The majority of our time is spent in other parts of California but we would love to spend both days in SF if we had some recommendations on parking. Forum results seem to be older so thought I'd start a new thread.
I've visited before and I've seen a lot of the touristy spots. Any recommendations on favorites for dinner or lunch? Any tips on getting sold out Alcatraz experiences?
Thanks!

I'm a little unclear what you're asking. There are parking garages and surface parking lots all over San Francisco. It depends where you want to be. Expect to pay between $20 and $35 to Park for the day.

The general wisdom on the subject is to pick up the car on the way out of town & drop it first thing on your return. I don't assume that would be best for your circumstances but also not assuming it wouldn't be. Convenient parking may be considerably more expensive than sf7307 suggests. It depends on where will be convenient for you. The logistics could go either way.

Not necessarily a recommendation, but there are Alcatraz resellers, who bundle Alcatraz tix with other items, such as tours around SF. Just search Alcatraz tours on line and there are tons of these combination tours, of course they cost more than just the Alcatraz tix and may include something you are not interested in doing.

It sounds like you are spending a day/night in SF on arrival and a day or day/night in the city at the end of your trip. Is that right?
If so, I'd seriously consider not picking up the car until the next morning as you are driving out of the city. As for the last day -- if you aren't staying that night I'd keep that car but where to park would depend on what my plans were that day. Then drive to the airport, drop car and fly out.
But if you are staying the last night in SF - I'd drop the car when getting back to the city and take public transport (BART or a taxi/uber) to the airport the next day.

Definitely don't pick up the car until you're leaving... there are rental places right downtown. Parking fees can be dynamic in SF ... if you use an app (like parking panda) it can usually save you some real $$. Another thought would be to park it at the Larkspur Ferry (just for 1 night) and take the ferry into SF. Very easy to get around from the terminal. It's a beautiful ride over to the City from Larkspur.
