San Diego Hotel Advice: good place for kids and an adult for one night
I am taking my 8 yo nephews to Seaworld on 12-10, a Wed.
SW closes at 5pm and we must make a 12pm train back to LA from the main sd station.
I would like to spend the evening, early morning at a hotel which has a nice warm pool open in the evening,
attractive grounds, no more than a 1/2 hr cab ride to SD train station.
Any suggestions on a hotel?
I was looking at Catamaran, Pacific Ocean, Pleasant Bay, and some near to the train station. Ideas??
THanks. (Please do not suggest I drive).
Thanks so much.

I don't know where Pleasent Bay or Pacific Ocean hotels are but the Catamaran is within a 1/2 taxi from the train station.
Other than that, I can't help you except to top this. I live in SD and don't stay at hotels here.
Hope we have some nice weather for you.

I would check the hotels on Harbor Island. The Hilton has a pool. Not sure if it is heated or if it will even be warm enough at night to use the pool. The Bay Club on Shelter Island also has a pool. Both of these locations care close to downtown (and therefore the train station).
Why did you decide on the train and not that bus tour you had been looking at?

Here's two options...
The Doubletree on Hazard Center Drive. I used Price Line for the first time this summer and got a great deal (68.00 a night!) It had an indoor pool and there were alot of families staying there. Its right next to the trolley line and the trolley takes you directly to the Train Station. However, its not near SW, but definitely a 30 min. ride in a cab.
Another option is the Dana Inn. Nice hotel, near Sea World, outdoor pool and its directly on the bay. Your nephews would probably enjoy it better.
What a nice Aunt you are! Have fun!

the catamaran is a good choice location wise. just a block from the ocean. the pool area is nice but check to make sure it's heated. might be too cold in december for an outdoor pool. maybe check if they have a hot tub. lots of family friendly restaurants around. probably about 15 minutes to sea world - 1/2 hr to the train station.
hotels on shelter island is a good suggestion.

A Hyatt hotel near Sea World just got redone and they installed water slides which your nephews might like. It used to be called the Islandia and I don't know what it is called now. Another choice good for kids is the Paradise Point Resort which is directly across from Sea World. They have a pool with a fake beach as well as a nice miniature golf course (no fake house, rather natural obstacles.) The Paradise is on the bay so you could do a bonfire.
The Hilton Homewood Suites in Point Loma is nice, near restaurants and has a nice pool area. There is also a nice Hilton Mission Beach which has a lovely pool and is near a huge public park with nice play areas.
Any of the above choices are within a 30 minute cab fare with good pools and grounds.
If you really want to splurge at Sea World, see if you can do dophin encounter or breakfast with Shamu.
