Salt Lake to Grand Teton to Yellowstone

Hi All,

Little late on my planning for upcoming Yellowstone trip this 4th of July. We will be flying in Salt Lake late afternoon. We have made following bookings.

1. First Night (evening drive from SLC to Logan) we are staying at Logan.
2. Next 2 nights we have booked at Colter Bay cabins @ Grand Teton National Park.
3. 3 nights in Grand Village Lodge/Yellowstone
4. 2 nights in Canyon lodge/Yellowstone
5. Return to Salt lake and fly out late night

With my physical disability I am restricted for long walks/climbs/hikes. Can walk around mile or so at a time. However kids (8 and 14) are exited about the whole trip.

This forum has always helped me with excellent advise. Looking forward for similar advice on planning around,

1. Where to spend time based on itinerary and make it memorable trip
2. Food options, what to try and avoid. Spouse and daughter are vegetarian
3. Any side trips considering length of stay
4. River trips (?)

Thank you for your recommendations.

Since you are going to Logan I hope you are continuing to Jackson through Logan Canyon. It was one of the most beautiful drives of our western trip.

As for food--there is a Whole Foods in SLC (Trolley Square, 7th EAst and 5th South) so you could stock up before you go. Also, all of the places we ate in Yellowstone had vegetarian options for dinner--usually pasta. It's not going to be super, but the food was mostly passable anyway. And I could always find a salad.

You will be going through Logan Canyon--truly gorgeous. Can you horseback ride? You could do a trail ride at Canyon. Not sure about River Trips-in Jackson, Barker Ewing is a great outfit. You might be better off with a float trip vs a white water trip--depends on what you want to do.

Since you couldn't get Old Faithful Lodging, you will be driving from Grant Village to the Old Faithful area and south of it. There are cancellations all the time. I would call OF every day to see if you could get a night or 2 there. Grant Village was not my favorite place to stay--they do have a great visitor center there.

You can search my user name for my trip report on Yellowstone with kids. And look at other Yellowstone questions--Meyer just had a post going around with lots of info about taking his grand daughter to Yellowstone.
