Romantic hotel in San Antonio

I would like to take my husband to San Antonio in April for a long weekend. I want to stay on the Riverwalk (or very close to), preferably a hotel with a balcony off of our room and beautiful view! I would like something romantic as it will just be the two of us!! A rooftop bar/pool would be wonderful. I am looking to spend about $200 a night. Also, recommendations for restaraunts and we love music - jazz or a piano bar. Thank you for your help!

Try the Watermark:

or the Westin Rivewalk:

Can't speak to it now but back in the day La Mansion del Rio was the romantic hotel to stay on the River Walk--it is now owned by Omni...

You might want to keep in mind that Fiesta runs from April 16-April 26 (according to official Fiesta website.) There are a lot of visitors to SA during that time, which might affect reservations and romantic atmosphere.

A couple of years ago we stayed at Contessa on the Riverwalk and it was very nice. They did have a roof top pool; I don't remember there being a bar but there was a nice one downstairs just off the riverwalk.

We went for our 1st anniversary and had a really nice suite.

Oh, and we really enjoyed our dinner at Pesca. They had an oyster bar and I had the best tequila mojito!

My husband and I have stayed here many times:

The Emily Morgan is just steps from the Riverwalk and the Alamo. It's a gorgeous, romantic place, even if they don't have a rooftop bar. There is a heated outdoor pool.

We really liked the Contessa. Rooftop pool (smallish) and a nice hotel bar. Have visited the Emily Morgan and it IS so very nice too.

Second the Watermark. Considered by many to be the nicest in town and great location.

I would have to second La Mansion del Rio, but it's been two or three years since I stayed.

La Mansion really meets your criteria and is more like a outique hotel, while Emily Morgan, though nice, is not on the Riverwalk but actually right on a busy street and faces the touristy buzz of the Alamo.

The Westin is also a good hotel with good location but certainly not romantic (very large). Can't comment on the other ones.

My vote goes to the Watermark. $200/night if it's during Fiesta might not make it though. Of course with the economy drooping, there's no telling what prices will be like then! ... or (depending on your perspective, hotelier or tourist! LOL)

For jazz...for sure try Jim Cullum's Landing. http://landing.com/

The Emily Morgan isn't on the Riverwalk but as I said it's only steps away. The front is on a busy street across from the Alamo, but your rooms won't be, so that's not a problem. Can't think of any nice big-city hotel that isn't on a busy street somewhere. The hotel is currently offering special rates of 200.00/night if you book directly with them, so the online services (expedia etc) will probably have some even better room rates.

Wherever you end up staying, you'll enjoy San Antonio!

Thank you for all of your insight! I knew not to go mid April due to the Fiesta, but thanks for the reminder as I was not sure of the dates. Hopefully, we can still go. As one reader commented, the economy is not the best and that is an issue now with us. Unfortunately, we may have to post pone due to this. Again, thanks for all of the help and keep it coming as I am keeping my fingers crossed we can go for a few nights.

I stayed at the Watermark 2-3 years ago and the experience wasn't up to par or at least housekeeping: trash in the room (on floor and trash can), floor not cleaned(carpet with chips, hair all over the bathroom floor, wasn't ready for check in upon arrival, etc We spoke to management several time and they finally sent up a fruit basket. They were suppose to clean the room while we went to dinner but didn't. The hotel pool is small but we enjoyed it while waiting for them to "clean" our room. We did enjoy the hotel bar.

We stayed at Hotel Contessa shortly after it opened and were struck by the beauty of its specific location on the Riverwalk. The hotel is situated on a fairly quiet bend of the Riverwalk with a back patio perfect for relaxing and watching the river traffic go by.

The suites are actual 'suites' with a bedroom separate from the living room. I loved this hotel and would definitely recommend it for a romantic weekend.
