RI to NY for Yankees game in July - help! Train? Car?

We're going to be in RI in July visiting family. I'm thinking about surprising my husband with Yankees tickets to one of the day games happening while we're there. What's the best way to get from RI to Yankee Stadium? We'll have a car, but I'm thinking the train or a combo of train and car to get there might be best. Can someone clue me in on the specifics? Thanks.

I'd say drive the car to New London or New Haven and take the train into Manhattan from there. Then you'd need to backtrack some and take the subway to Yankee Stadium. From New Haven there's a Metro North commuter train into Grand Central or an Amtrak train into Penn Station. I think New London link is the metronorth.

There may be a way to get off at 125 st. and get a subway from there to Yankee stadium instead of going to mditown, but someone else will have to advise since I'm not sure where on 125 st. the Metro North train stops and whether that would be near the right subway.

MetroNorth (Commuter train) ends at New Haven .. and will be a lot less expensive than Amtrak. I'm not sure what the parking situation will be on weekdays at any of the Amtrak/MetroNorth stations.

You don;t give your dates - but there are not very many day games at the Stadium in July. (At the beginning of the month they're playing the Mets - so that's long sold out - leaving only 4 other day games in July.) Do you have have a game picked out yet? Do you have the tickets yet? If not - you really need to get them ASAP.

Parking at most MetroNorth stations will not be an issue since they're all weekend games. But that means there may also be fewer train options.

The official start time is usually 1pm - but due to the fact that almost every game is sold out and security is pretty strict you should arrive no later than noon to be seated by start of game. If you want to see BP and have a chance to tour monument park get there no later than 11am.

You can get off MetroNorth at 125th St and take the D or 4 subway a couple of stops to the Yankee Stadium Station - this will be much faster than going to Grand Central and backtracking. (There is no MetroNorth Station near Yankee Stadium - they will be installing one at the New Stadium - but in any case it would be the Harlem line - not the New Haven one.)

Driving directions can be found at newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/nyy/
ballpark/directions_parking.jsp

There is plenty of parking at the stadium - but it is filled for almost every game - the streets are mobbed - and it can take an hour after the game to get out of the parking lot.

You might want to consider spending a night in the city. Otherwise, I would drive it.

I go to a lot of games. I always drive. It's not a big deal to drive to the stadium. Unless it's a Mets or Boston game, I don't think you'll find parking to be that big a problem. There's almost always parking available in the lots.

Since it's a day game, you have a choice of driving into Manhattan for dinner or going to the area around Arthur Avenue in the Bronx for an Italian restaurant.

I do not see the logic of driving to New Haven, taking the train to Manhattan, and then a subway. It will be so easy for you to just drive to the stadium from #95. Just get there early and park in the lots; or on the street, even if you have to go a few blocks away.
