getting to Yankee Stadium from Stamford, CT
Hi!
My husband and I will be in Stamford next weekend for a wedding. We got tickets to the Yankee's game on Sunday, Aug 22nd.
Just wondering the best way to get to/from the game.
We were thinking of taking the Metro North line into Grand Central, then taking the subway to the game. We want to come back into the city after the game for dinner, so we thought this would work. But is there an easier way to get to the game, avoiding Manhattan on the way there?
We will have a rental car, but we don't want to drive (it's a weekend without the baby, so we'll be drinking at the game, and I don't want to deal with parking/traffic)
We have both been to the city several times, and are pretty comfortable with the trains)
Thanks for your help!!!
Trish

Instead of taking the train all the way to Grand Central, you can get off at 125th Street and walk a block or two over to the subway station for the #4 train. This might save about 30 minutes, give or take.
In their infinite wisdom, Metro North didn't bother to have a station near Yankee Stadium. (BTW, the plans the Yankees have for a new stadium, call for the construction of a MetroNorth station)

Hi Halperp,
IMO I think it would be a good idea like you said- to take the # 4 train express from Grand Central up to Yankee Stadium.
Definitely agree that you shouldn't drive to the game. Traffic and parking may be quite hectic.
BTW, leave your large purse/backpack at home. Security won't let you in, and you may wind up having to pay $5 to have your bag stored in the backroom of a local eatery (across the street from the stadium).

Back from CT and NY, and I just wanted to say thanks for the replies.
We took the Metro N. line to Grand Central, then the #4 to the game (lots of fun), then we took a D train back into the city and hung out in Central Park, had a few drinks/dinner, then back to CT.
We love your city, and I was really impressed with the frequency and ease of the public transit. I still can't believe how many people were on the suburban train at 10PM on a Sunday night~~you'd never see that in Chicago.
