Recommendation for great travel agent for Hawaii trip
I am working on arrangements for a 15 day trip to Hawaii (Maui, Big Island & Oahu) beginning of December. I was reading that with help from a good travel agent (preferably local) one can get a much better price for bundling car rental, accommodations and potentially a tour or two (we already have all the flight tickets) than doing this on my own. If anyone had a great personal experience with a very good travel agent, I'd appreciate the info.

You may not get a lot of responses to this, because most people on this forum book their own accommodations, etc. to the different islands. However, if you want information about specific accommodations, great restaurants, places to see certain things, most worthwhile tours and activities, then this is a good forum to get those answers.
It may be too late since you have the plane tickets, but two islands instead of three is plenty for 15 days. They are all large enough for a week's vacation, especially if you like beach activities.

Where have you read that? I always just plan my own trips. Especially if you already bought plane tickets, I'm not sure why you'd need or want a travel agent at this point. Hawaii's very easy to plan.

ok so I guess I can't give out my email. But please find a travel agent. We can get great rates, and often offer special amenities. I always give my clients restaurant recommendations, tour and travel tips. there are many hotels that look good on their web site-but have problems you don't know about (like pool closures, and other things like that)
You will never pay more by going through a good travel agent, and usually less. There is usually no fee for their service, I have no idea why someone who is not experienced with their destination would try to plan on their own. Ask friends for ecommendatins

I'm like Suze - I visit online forums, buy books, and ask people for recommendations. I've never used a travel agent.
I have, however, used this service a few times:

It's helpful because they'll help you do price comparison for different operators and help you book the operator/price that works best for you. No fee to you as a traveler - am sure they are paid by the companies with which they have contracts.
They are really "local," by the way. I just contacted the concierge in Kauai to book a tubing adventure for an upcoming trip.

Another reason why I don't need a TA is I don't do many things that would be their area of expertise. I don't rent a car, I don't stay at resorts, I don't do tours, cruises, outdoor adventure type things. I would know about a pool closure because I email the hotel front desk and chat with them about stuff like that.

Thanks for the input. Usually I do everything on my own but due to some unexpected time constraints I find it hard to locate what I want within the budget that I have. So I will keep searching as I know that the hard work pays off. I might come back for feedback.

You could ask this forum your specific questions. Also the individual island forums over at Trip Advisor are a great resource too.
Tell us what you want and what budget you have and people will chime in, I'm sure.

I thought that travel agents now charge for trip planning. R they still free? Personally I also like reading up on the area and planning the trip myself. I find that planning is half the fun but not everyone likes that part of the trip. Some people just want to pack and have everything ready for them when they arrive with someone else doing the research. I hope she finds someone to ease her fears.
