Rapid City to Bismarck, where to stay between the two?

We are going to be flying into Rapid City and spending a couple of days in the area, visiting Mt. Rushmore and hiking, etc. After that, we will be driving to Bismarck and wanted to see if anyone has suggestions for a city between the two where we should spend the night. Is there anything worth seeing on the drive from Rapid City to Bismarck? We'll be there in mid-October. Thanks!

Drive north into North Dakota and visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park -- just like Badlands NP but without people. Stay in Medora, just outside TRNP.

If you are driving I94, just west of Bismarck is the World's Largest Holstein Cow on a hillside at New Salem exit 127.

Slight correction - Theodore Roosevelt National Park is similar to SD Badlands, but much more colorful (SD's more white-toned, ND more red/earth tones). Bison & wild horse herds, groundhog colonies, etc. Medora's a cowboy/tourist town on the edge of the park - lodging available. You could also stay at Dickinson, which would be along I-94 on the way to Bismarck (Dinosaur Museum there). In Bismarck-Mandan area, visit Ft. Lincoln to see where Custer departed for his final journey to Little Bighorn. Reconstructed fort/Mandan Indian village to tour. About an hour North of Bismarck, you could visit Washburn/Stanton area to see where Lewis & Clark wintered/found Sakakawea...There's little between RC/Bismarck besides prarie, so be sure to fill gas/take snacks - check road info for construction. When are you visiting?

We are going mid-October, most likely the 15-19th.
