Here's the deal - we arrive NYC late night Thursday 12/21, have all day Friday and Saturday and util about noon Sunday to enjoy NYC. Staying UWS (W89th and Amsterdam), comfortable using public transport. Having visited previously we are not interested in the usual tourist spots, but would appreciate suggestions on places/activities/shops/restaurants that might be fun for two adults (well, at least chronologically) on a last minute trip.

That's a pretty broad request. What do you like to do? What have you seen before? What do you like to eat? How much are you comfortable spending?

If you haven't been here at the holidays do walk Fifth Avenue to see all the store windows and Rock Center tree etc. And if you haven;t been here recently - do Top of the Rock - since it hasn;t been open that long. If you enjoy ballet do see the Nutcracker - we always make it a part of the holidays.

Other than that - your interests? There are literally dozens of museums and hundreds of galleries as well as all sort of special holiday activities. (Check out the web sites of Ne York Magazine and Time Out New York.)

a few months ago we also enjoyed, Tisserie, someone on the board recommended and it was great and marvelous coffee to warm you up - and the best brownies....

Lisette - yes, it is a broad question, by design as we are wide open to suggestion and since we have been to NYC many time over the years have done pretty much all the usual tourist things in the past. You are right, though, that $ guide would help narrow. Can't put a definite limit on anything, but in general I am one who squeezes the nickels until the proverbial buffalo has no need of a laxative but also doesn't mind an occasional splurge if it is "worth it".
