private cottages in Hawaii?
I am looking for a hotel complex that offers private cottages...spaced far enough apart that you can sit on a lanai overlooking the water without seeing other cottages or people. Does this sort of accomodation exist? If yes, can anyone point me in the right direction. I'm not picky on which island...all suggestions welcome. We would prefer a nice swimming beach within short walking distance of the cottage if possible.

Not sure if this may be what you are looking for, but years ago I did a story on the Waimea Plantation Cottages on Kauai.

The only thing is, land is scarce in Hawaii so it's not super possible to be on a resort property with a cottage, in which you cannot see any other cottages or people. These cottages are pretty well spaced out, however, so I don't think your privacy will be totally infringed upon. It was REALLY peaceful.

Would ditto auntie's suggestions. The Mauna Lani's condos are particularly nice and extremely well appointed. However, I'm not aware of any hotel, resort locations in Hawaii where you can't "see other cottages or people".

I second Waimea Plantation Cottages. We spent a week there and it was beyond wonderful. it is so quiet and peaceful being on the less developed side of the island, nothing but the counds of nature. Weber grill in the backyard, we grilled fresh fish with mangoes and limes we picked from the property. the hardwood floors, the traditional furniture, the ceiling fans, the good-luck gecko...it was perfect. I want to go back to Kauai just to stay there again.

I, too, am looking for a cottage in Kauai. I was looking at the south, but now considering north. Any recommendations for 4 nights under $300 a night. I do not want a condo, but definitely want beach in front of me. Also, have found several that are secluded they state with almost no one around. Are their any safety issues in kauai, especially with no airconditioning and windows being left open. Thanks,
