Place to sleep between Orono, ME and Burlington, VT?
Can anyone recommend a place to stop/sleep between Orono, Maine and Burlington, Vermont to break up the 6 hr. drive? We'll be taking Rt. 2 across New Hampshire. Are there any interesting roadside attractions that are worth checking out? Or good spots for dinner?

You could stop for a charm break in Bethel, Maine, a quintessential New England town.
West of there, the views of the White Mountains are spectacular, and yuo could take a brief detour south to the beginning of the Auto Road up Mt Washington for a fabulous view of most of the Presidential Range.
You could stop for the night in Lancaster, NH, or St Johnsbury, VT.
This is a long drive, and 6 hours may be underestimating it a bit because it is pretty much all 2 lane. All it takes is one logging truck . . . .
But the scenery is good the whole route.

I would suggest Littleton NH for an overnight so you can have breakfast at the Littleton Diner plus an evening snack at the great ice cream place. I agree with Ackislander that a detour to visit one of the White Mountain attractions or short hike would be worth it if this is a warm weather trip. If it's late summer, there's the Great Vermont Corn Maze in Danville VT where you could stretch your legs.
We have stayed at the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield NH but it's not an overnight kind of place.

Thanks for your replies! This is a first weekend of April trip and don't have acres of time for general meandering. We've had to change our plan slightly so will be driving straight through to Burlington from Orono. I will check out where the White Mountain is and wouldn't mind a stop at a scenic overlook. Stopping in Littleton for ice cream is something that my crowd might quite like! And Bethel might make a nice car break as well since it's right on the way. Thanks!

The White Mountains are the mountain range in NH (Vermont's mountains are the Green Mountains, hence the state name Ver-Mont). There are lots of good restaurants in Burlington for dinner and other places along the way.
It sounds as though you are checking out colleges? You mentioned on another thread that you might go to Montreal. Our older son graduated from McGill and loved his time there.
