Manchester , NH to someplace in Vermont
My brother and I are trying to see New Hampshire and Vermont in a three day weekend. We don't expect to see very much, just enough to count them towards our goal of seeing all 50 states. We are flying in and out of Manchester, NH. Any suggestions of what part of Vermont to go into since we are on such limited time?

I don't know VT. but consider Alton Bay New Hampshire for you're final night, you'll have a short ( I think about an hour) drive to Manchester. Mt. Major is a nice hike, you'll never forget the beautiful view.

fly into manchester then take 93 north to 89 (n or w) head to white river junction see quechee gorge and then on into woodstock vt.
the New Hampshire that most folks think of is the white mountains and the presidential range. Mount Washington (highest recorded winds on the planet or darn near close) to do this:
take 93 all the way up to Lincoln, take the Kancamagus Hwy towards North Conway then 302 up to the presidentials. (you can find a place to stay the night in NORTH conway. go to mt washington the next day.
from mt. washington head to vt, you can take 302 as well. hit 91, head south towards quechee and see the gorge. spend your evening in woodstock and head back to manchester. (you can do this if you have an afternoon flight home. If you don't, the first route is shorter, but short changes new hampshires wonders.. have fun.
woodstock would give you vt.

Head up Rt 93. You can be at Lake Winnipesaukee in an hour. Unless you are arriving after dark, spend your first night someplace north. Drive thru the White Mountains and head for Littleton NH. Spend your second night some place in VT. Woodstock is very pretty and near the NH border. A drive thru with a stop for lunch would be nice but lunch at Simon Pierce in Queechee would be even nicer. Concord NH to Burlington VT via Rt 89 is about 3 hours (Burlington is in northern VT on the Lake Camplain/NY border) is also an option. Roaming around both states will make a nice weekend but heading for a specific event or place might be advisable. A good craft fair? An interesting museum? We hope to make it over to Brandon VT sometime this summer to see the painted rocking chairs. It's a nice small town with a surprising number of talented artists who live there or nearby. The chair on the cover of the brochure was painted by Miles Kimball. Brandon is fairly close to Middlebury. Check out a calendar of Vermont events and pick one to decide what part of the state to visit.

Manchester airport is a wonderful start to your trip. As others have said, you can easily drive to Portland Me, Burlington Vt. or the beautiful lakes region of NH as well as the White Mountains of NH and the Green Mountains of Vermont. I really like Stowe Vermont. Whether you like hiking, biking,or just scenery, they all will satifiy your needs. Have fun !
