Pirate Queen Broadway Box Reviews

The majority of the reviews on www.broadwaybox.com were positive. I hope the guy who wrote the last review shown below never sits next to me during a show. He reports that they thought the fight scenes were so bad that they laughed out loud during them. EXCUSE ME, but one person's trash may be another person's treasure....

1. "My wife and I attended the show on the 5th april and loved it. Stephanie block superb as Grania. and we also felt that Hadley Fraser and Linda Balgord were super. Great cast and sets and costumes were really great. Dont understand what the critics have reported. Its like they were at a different show. Audience on their feet for the last song and everyone there loved it. go and see the show for yourselves."

2. "This show is phenomenal. Frank Galati did a great job directing this. The music is breathtaking and absolutely touching. The choreography is genuine and is full of irish culture. The story was clear and amazing. Stephanie J Block gave a phenomenal performance with her powerhouse voice and her awesome acting. Hadley Fraser has a a golden voice. Linda Balgord is majestic and elegant and tremendous. Theses tree leads will all win tonys. The sets were superb and the costumes are the best ever. This is a must see."

3."The critics are nuts. We thoroghly enjoyed the show, which we saw in previews. The voices were great. Hopefully, word of mouth will keep it running."

4. "I saw this show with my husband on 3/31 in New York. The scenic design and choreography are fantastic! This show is based on a real story. The costumes and staging bring us back to the old time in 16th century, regardless the limitation of the stage. The storyline is beautiful. It’s a story about life. It’s not a really funny nor romantic show, but contains deep meanings behind the story that worth thinking. The vocal and acting of both the pirate queen and queen Elizabeth are fabulous. I recommend this show for teenagers or adults, but not young children."

5. "The is one of the most memorable broadway shows I've ever seen. I saw it in the afternoon and it made my day. I didn't think I wasted a penny."

6. It was my wife's birthday - our three adult sons and a family friend were in attendance. Since I believed the advertizing that this show was strongly influenced by Celtic music and dance, I wanted to see it.

"My three sons and family friend left at intermission.

My wife and I continued to endure the show by realizing that it was really a comedy - we simply substituted songs from Spamalot. However, they must have forgotten David Hyde Pierce's warning about who they needed to make the show a success. In short - the show was terrible - music, acting, and staging (we were all laughing out loud at the fight scenes). The technical aspects of the singing were good - but who cares? Costumes were good and the sets were well done - they just needed a show that matched their quality."

Sorry, twina49, but six comments is hardly a significant sample!
I'll stick with the critics on this one!

Howard, You're the guy who laughed during the sword fight, right?

No,no,no. I was one of those people who was smart enough to realize that after I read that the producers were the same ones who produced Riverdance, then I knew that The Pirate Queen was not a show for us!
Further, if I had gotten tickets for the show, rather than laughing during the swordfight, I would have been crying thinking of the money I had wasted!

We saw the Pirate Queen on its opening night of previews on Broadway, and enjoyed it very much. There were scenes that I thought could use a bit of tweaking, but, on the whole, thought that it was a good show. The dancing was fantastic, and the cast was quite good. I liked the music for the most part - but I do enjoy celtic music. I can see that it wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I think that anyone who liked Riverdance would really enjoy this show. I will say that it wasn't my favorite show that we saw, but I still liked it a lot.
