Pacific Northwest

We will be traveling to the Pacific Northwest for the first time in late September into October. We have to be in Portland for 6 days, then will have 9 more days to explore the area. We plan to go to Canon Beach, and we would like to end up in Seattle for a couple of days at the end of the trip. We are hoping to get up to Vancouver as well. Any suggested itineraries? What shouldn't we miss? Thank you!

Sounds like fun. I really enjoyed Crater Lake and driving the Oregon Coast. Depending on how much time you have, I would do either Vancouver or Seattle, but not both.

It can be damp and rainy that time of year. Or it can be warm and sunny. Be prepared for all kinds of weather.

With 9 days and wanting to see the Oregon coast & Seattle both I'm not sure I'd try to squeeze in Vancouver as well. That adds on time, expense and distance when there is so much to see just around OR/WA.

Also depends how much you want to drive & be on the go...

You could do the Oregon, then Washington coasts, and Seattle and leave it at that. Before leaving Oregon you could tour the wineries and Willamette Valley. Heading north you could include Mt. Rainier &/or the Olympic National Park. Whidbey Island or San Juan Islands are beautiful.

The options are a long list is my point welcome to the great PNW.

suze, in seattle

Thank you for the advice. We may just try to see Oregon and Washington this time and save Vancouver for another trip.

I truly do think you'll have a more enjoyable trip that way. Don't get me wrong, Vancouver is a great city, you could do an entirely different 7-10 day trip up in that area, another time.

I suggest the Oregon Coast (from Florence to Cannon Beach if possible), the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Rainier, Hurricane Ridge and Crescent Lake in the Olympic NP, the ferry from Port Angles to Victoria, and then Vancouver.
