I will be traveling to Orlando with my husband who will be in business meetings all day and into the evenings. I know I can find things to do during the day but am not sure what I should plan from 5PM until 9 or so. I will have a car. Any suggestions for safe, enjoyable activities?

I was in EXACTLY your situation (spouse at business meetings, I with a car) when I was in Orlando last summer. What exactly do you intend to until 5pm, that you can't continue to do between 5pm and 9pm? All of the Disney parks are open most nights til 8pm, and at least till 6pm every night. Universal is open till 7pm almost every night, and Sea World till 6pm.

The huge entertainment and shopping complexes near these parks are open till WELL past 9pm.


As an aside, I LOVED visiting these parks by myself, mainly because lone visitors get to go to the front of the line at pretty much every ride.

Having a late lunch in downtown Celebration might be nice. We'll often hit the Cafe D'Antonio while at WDW. Celebration is Disney's take on the perfect town. A bit antiseptic, but I can see the appeal.

Orlando's malls, Florida and Millenium are good after dark options.

You don't say where you are staying. Downtown Disney has a movie complex where you could catch a movie in the evening a short walk from several good restaurants.

If you are planning to do the parks on your own, consider Universal has a beneficial single rider line that can short cut you around most of the waits. Might be the best way to avoid the madness at Harry Potter.

Are you staying in the attraction areas or are you staying in Orlando proper. There is great shopping at outlet malls. But do not overlook Orlando proper, several excellent museums, The Morse museum in Winter Park has the largest collection of Tiffany objects in the world , including the whole chapel from the World's fair.Park Avenue has great shops and cafes. The Orlando fine arts museum has a wonderful collection, and the Mennello museum of American art is nearby and most interesting.

there is lots of live theatre each evening, including at the exceptional drama dept of Rollins College.
If you like wildlife make sure you visit the Birds of Prey center in MAitland.

Ryan's suggestion of Cafe d"Antonio is excellent. The original place is in Maitland ,La Fiamma and it a favorite of ours. It is also a deli and wine shop, so you choose your bottle and pay on;y a $5.00 corkage fee..great deal!

Big second to avalon's Winter Park suggestion. I often go there by myself for museum-going, shopping, and dining. Note that the Morse is open until 8 p.m. on Fridays, November through April. You don't say when you'll be there, but check the Rollins website for info on theater, music, and lectures: http://tars.rollins.edu/arc/ If you enjoy classical music and are here in February or March, check the Bach Festival website: http://www.bachfestivalflorida.org/performances

FYI:
Epcot open till 9pm each day.
Magic Kingdom open at least till 8pm each day, till 11pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Hollywood Studios open til 8pm or 7pm each day.
Universal open till 6pm or 7pm each day.
Universal City Walk open till 2am EVERY day of the year.
Most shops at Downtown Disney are open till 11:30pm.
The Orlando Magic are at home on the 19th and 21st.

Being on my own at age 56 when I went there last year, I wasn't certain I would enjoy the theme parks in Orlando. I loved *ALL* of them! If you have any love of movies or the entertainment business, or just enjoy thrills; I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy them as well!

I got married at Champions Gate and you could almost have fun in your own hotel. It is an awesome place. You could get a late massage at the spa there and then change and have a cocktail at the hotel bar. It is a very nice scene. There might be live music or someone playing the piano. I can't remember because it has been a few years. Or, you could bring a good book to the hotel jacuzzi and you might have the place to yourself. Sounds like heaven to me.

You are also close to the town of Celebration which is a wonderful place to visit and grab a bite to eat and take a stroll.

I also like the idea of Winter Park which I love. However, it is probably about a 45 minute drive one way.

My friend and I found that 4-6 was a great time to be at the pool- families with noisy kids were at dinner and we could relax with a cocktail and enjoy the warm but not blazing hot air at that time of day. Then from 6-7 each day we did a sunset power walk for exercise before getting ready to go out for dinner.
