I was wondering how long of a journey is it to cooperstown from nyc.Can a roundtrip with a tour of the hof be done in day?Is it worth it?I hear it takes about 3 hrs to view.Thx in advance.

It's about 200 miles and will take about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to get there. It can be done in a day, but it's a long day!

I have a friend who is a high school teacher in NY who takes students RT to the hall of fame in a day.

So yes, it can be done in a day.

My sister and I went from Staten Island and 4 hours is about right. It is wonderful and well worth the trip. The town is fun too and the NY Historical
Society working farm is up there and Glimmerglass Opera House so you might make an overnight trip of it. I loved it.

It depends on when you're going/how the weather is.

Most of the year the times you've been given are fine. In the winter if the roads are bad the drive can easily take 6 hours.

Ooh, I would not do that in a day. Getting stuck behind a slow moving vehicle on two lane roads adds a lot of time too. You could get through the hall of fame in about 3 hrs but the town has a lot things you'd want to see. If it's the only way you can see it, go for it. Otherwise you would not be sorry to spend a night or two there.

I am considering the same idea. My Twins are at Yankee Stadium July 2-5 and would like to go to a game and also see Cooperstown. My wife is a gamer, but not quite as gung-ho as I am about baseball, so we will stay in Manhattan for at least 5-7 days to allow for plenty of other diversions... shopping, eating, a show or two. (We were there a few years back, but so much more left on the checklist.)

My question is this: I am not going to try an NYC-Cooperstown round trip in a day. We will probably fly in from MN, although I am not totally adverse to driving out (I know, crazy). If we fly, what do you suggest for the trip to the Hall of Fame? Short term car rental with one night hotel there? Look for an overnight tour? Packing up our Manhattan hotel and then coming back and resettling a day later is always do-able, but I don't look forward to wasting a minute out there!

Fly into Albany airport and rent a car. About 90 minutes drive to the HOF. Stay overnite in a B&B and then it is a 4 hour drive to the Waldorf=Astoria (at some rental car location in Manhattan).

Fly into NYC, go to town. Rent a car at the hotel or nearby in Manhattan. Drive out to Cooperstown. Drop the car at ALB and fly home from there.

Fly into EWR, rent a car and drive to HOF. Return car to EWR and go into the city. This avoids a one-way drop-off charge.

DK: I agree with the suggestion of flying into one of the NY area airports & renting a car to go directly to Cooperstown. You can return to NYC the same day that you visit the HOF (the next day after you fly in).

THANKS. Great minds think alike. I was just coming to some of those same conclusions, probably flying into EWR, one nite in Cooperstown and seeing HOF first thing. Right now, I'm weighing the cost differences between 1) returning the car to the airport and paying for transport into the city OR 2) the added rental cost for returning the car to my Manhattan hotel... also trying to juggle dates for flights, tickets to game(s), and Jersey Boys... I can feel the dollars floating away already. (in a good way, of course)

Sounds like a fun vacation...but I'm glad to hear you're not going to do everything in a day! If you're looking for a nice place to stay, I've been here and liked it very much.
