NYC restaurant near Lincoln Ctr: Landmarc, Whym

We are leaving for NYC on Thursday for 4 dys meeting up with a group of friends for our annual in the city:

On Saturday night we have tickets to South Pacific -
there are 8 of us, and we have rezzies on hold at the following: If anyone can chime in and help us choose it would be appreciated - or if you have some other favorite we'd see if they had any openings - our first choice would have been Telepan, but they are booked solid - things have been a bit crazy and I wasn't on top of things as early as I should have been -

Landmark at 10 Columbus Circle / Time Warner Ctr OR
WHYM (889 9th at 58th St)
OR
Cafe Luxembourg (200 W 70th)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts -

mmm, tough. Too bad about Telepan. I like Landmarc downtown, uptown is big, and pretty noisy, and I thought the food was good, not great.

Never been to WHYM.

Near LC, I REALLY like Gabriel's 11 W. 60th St.- that's always my first choice when I'm around there - delicious Tuscan food, very pro service. A bit of a walk, but they will get you in and out in time.

Friends really liked their meals at Bar Boulud two weeks ago, but that will be a tough reservation. Rosa Mexicano is OK if you stick to drinks and apps;

Last February we had a very large family lunch at Shun Lee West - it was incredible - the food was delicious, the service wonderful. Everyone raved about it, I got calls for days afterward.

And there's always Picholine - excellent, but $$$$

In that area we usually do Shun Lee - our favorite non-local Chinese.

Out of the ones you list, I'd go for Luxembourg but I'd rather go to

Another vote for Picholine . . . and, yes, that is too bad about Telepan.

I had heard of WHYM a year ago, and did some searching -- I'm thinking it was on Trip Advisor or maybe MenuPages. The reviews were almost universally dreadful. We didn't go.

Check Nougatine as well (the more "casual" part of Jean Georges)

Jean Georges just introduced a prix fixe at Nougatine $35 pp pre-theatre and after 10:00, if you can get a res, I'd go for it!

Thank you all so much: the drive in the pouring rain landed us at our friends in CT later than we thought last night - and I didn't get to log on -

I just looked at some of the menus and will see what we can find -

Cafe des Artistes is another I had tried, it has always been one of my favorite NYC places, and our group ate their last year, they regretfully were full as was Picholine.....

Thin: according to the web page, it appears Cafe Gray at Time Warner has closed but they are looking to open perhaps some other options, you might want to check it out they have a spot for you to get on their list to keep updated esp if you enjoyed what the chef created -

You're all great - thanks again - we are off to the city in a few - not rain, nor sleet, nor snow can stop our merry and hardy group !

Escargot, I have never eaten at Cafe Gray but my sister loves the place. Her best friend is the editor-in-chief of one of America's premier food magazines. The two of them often go out to dinner together. My sister gave Cafe Gray high marks. It is too bad it closed.

Compass is reliable: I would probably go there rather than the ones on your list:

First, saw South Pacific and you are in for a real treat! Across the street from Lincoln Center is Rosa Mexicano http://www.rosamexicano.info/servlet/locations/nyclc
Upscale Mexican.

I am finally catching up with Fodors after a variety of things has unfortunately kept me away -

so I have been remiss in updating some posts where fellow fodorites were so helpful - this week, my goal is to catch up on all of these plus the trip reports !

We ended up eating at WHYM and had a wonderful meal and a great time - service was extremely attentive and we were a party of 8, food was delicious - we ran from there to South Pacific and a great show -

trip report to follow, but wanted to acknowledge where we ate that night,e tc.

thanks a
