New Orleans taxis

Do all or some taxis in New Orleans take credit cards?

I've been reading that there is a fixed rate from the airport to the FQ. Is that also true for the Garden District?

Thanks

Not all taxis take credit. My experience has been that MOST do not. The cabs have a $28 flat rate to the Quarter and to the Garden District. Not a bad idea to print out your destination address and Mapquest directions, though. I live in the lower Garden District and airport cabbies have a hard time finding my house.

Thanks Dan. I'm new to this chat line and hope that my reply gets through.

What's the tipping standard for taxis? Is it posted inside the cab depending on number of luggage?

There's no real "standard" for tipping. I usually give $31 when going to the airport ($28 + 3 tip) but some may find this too low or too high.

As for tipping I think Dan is right. I normally tip $1 for every $10 always rounding up.

I've hardyly ever used a credit card anywhere for a cab.

Always ask for a price estimate before you take the ride if you really need to know. Some cities the cab drivers will actually give you a fixed rate ahead of time.

LilyLace and Dan - thanks

FYI in Canada, it is common to have taxis that use credit cards. Not all do that, but many do, especially at the airport. Even when you order a cab, you can request credit card service.

Please don't expect a lot from NO cabs. I've ridden in quite a few and all have been very old, usually run-down and un-airconditioned. Drivers have always been friendly and knowlegable though.
