New Orleans-Garden District

Booked a room at a B&B in the Garden District in January. Just going to be there for a long weekend and just plan on walking around town to get a feel of the place. Was this a good location to stay in? The place is on 4th St., and says it's right near the St. Charles streetcar, but they all say that.

Thanks for any info.

If the B&B is indeed "in the Garden District," then it should be between St. Charles and Magazine on 4th -- which is a fine neighborhood. I'm sure you understand that this is not walking distance to the French Quarter, though.

Be aware that Streetcar service is spotty. You sometimes wait for up to an hour to find four or five cars stacked up on each other. Frequency drops late at night and yhou should be prepared to use cabs as a backup.

If you can tell us the name of the B&B or the address, I am sure you will get some comments.

I have stayed in the Garden District, and the streetcars were usually on time...I think they were on a schedule. We would take the streetcars during the day and early evening, and then we would get back to our place via taxi.

I live near the Street Car Line. Unless there is a breakdown or car accident they all run about 15 minutes apart at peak times. They are usually full and sometimes I stand up but I have never seen them an hour apart.
