New Jersey in July

My family and I will be in New Jersey for 2 weeks while my husband is on a business trip. We'll be staying near McGuire A.F.B. I have three small kids ages 4,5, & 6 and would like to know about any places fun for kids. I'd also like to know about any good restaurants in Philladelphia, New York, or the surrounding New Jersey area.

don't know where you are from but kids of all ages like the Jersey shore. Myself enjoy Wildwood but I think you are closer to Seaside Hts. For the kids there is a place called Storybook Land which is located on I believe the BlackHorse Pike outside of Atlantic City. As far as restaurants there are lots of them anything in particular write back and I'll try to help you out.

Thanks for your information Jack. I'd like to visit any good seafood or steak restaurants. Also, is there any fun kids places with play grounds.

There are a few places for the kids like Sesame Place which is great for the younger kids, I beleive its in Langhorne PA. Also there is Great adventure which is an amusement park!! As far as resturants go there are so many here especially in Phila!!!! In Jersey there is a place called Steak and Ale which has great steaks!! Its located at Rt.70 and RT.295 in Cherry Hill! If you get a chance to go to CapeMay which is at the Jersey Shore, there is the CapeMay Zoo, which is free and unbeleivable!! Its really big and you can spend pretty much the whole day there!!! Also there is a place called Smithville on Rt.9 in I beleive Smithville that is really nice!! It is like a little village, with shops and a lake with ducks and a couple rids for the kids!!!!

Cape May is a great place if your kids like the beach and you like beautiful Victorian homes and awe-inspiring sunsets. Wildwood is about 7 miles away if your kids are older and like thrill rides, Atlantic City is about 12 hr north if you are into gambling. Don't miss NYC if you can help it there is no place better if you like anything else. It has it all. Where are you from?

Thanks for the information Jo Ann. I'm from Huntsville, AL. We are planning to go to NYC during one weekend. Are there any not to miss places to go?

I grew up in New Jersey. From where you are staying it is an easy trip to the New Jersey beaches (which every Jersey person refers to as "the shore". Someone mentioned Seaside, that is okay but a little honky tonk. I would recommend Manasquan which has a nice beach and some food and small rides for the kids. Great Adventure amusement park is just west of 95 from where you are and a short trip into Langhorne PA (just over the river from Trenton) is Seasame Place. It has rides and attractions for the kids and a water park. Cape May is very nice with its Victoria Homes but is a couple hour trip from where you are staying. Have fun.

Was at the Discovery Museum recently. It is located in Cherry Hill, near exit 4 off the NJ turnpike. It is a great place for children from 4 to 10. Just
figure on sitting back and watch them have a good time. The highlight for mine were the huge soap
bubbles (made with a hula hoop). They also enjoyed
the grocery store, complete with cash register, shopping baskets and plastic food. There is a stage
with play clothes, a boat with fishing poles, a vet's office with stuffed animals, a diner (booths,
a counter, plastic foods), tree house and much, much more.

seeing that the original post is from June of 1997, I'm guessing the poster has already gone on his/her vacation to the Jersey Shore.

What a riot. This post is over 5 years old! The kids are basically twice as old as they were, and Pam is long gone. I realize there are legitimate reasons for reviving old threads, but how important was it to add "storybook land is good."
