Mount Rushmore Area Eating
Going for 4 nights to Mount Rushmore area in September staying in Hill City. Interested in restaurants you liked or disliked in Hill City, Custer or Keystone. Thanks for any info, Gail

The only one that stands out to me was the Ruby House in Keystone. If I remember correctly there was a fire a couple years ago, just months after that last time I ate there. Does look to still be around though. I don't remember that many other places that were more than just a place to eat. But I do give a thumbs up to Ruby House.

We ate at Ruby House last fall so it's up and going again after the fire.
Since you're going to be in the area for four nights, you might want to consider going into Rapid City one night for dinner. I recommend either the Corn Exchange or Botticelli--the CE is easily the best food in the area but Botticelli is always delicious.

gree with Corn Exchange in Rapid City-the best meal of our vacation in SD and the best since long time in US.
From appetizers to dessert all is perfect.
Pheasant room at the Game Lodge in Custer Park is also a good one.
Excursion on a whole day and The Laughstrin restaurant in Spearfish Canyon Lodge worth the visit(trout is here exceptional).

The Sage Creek Grill in Custer was wonderful. The Alpine Inn in Hill City was a good cheap filet mignon dinner with fabulous desserts. Here's a link to my recent trip report. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=34840686

FWIW I did not enjoy the Pheasant Roon @ Custer State Park. The pork that I was served was no where close to 'done' and after sending it back once, I chose to eat 2 salads for dinner so I could enjoy the meal with my friends rather than after they had finished.
