Montrose/Art/Hunting

Does anyone know if there are big game guides as well as art galleries and perhaps art classes available in Montrose? My husband and I like to travel together but have different interests. Thanks.

melanie8, just curious, how long have you been married or dating a hunter?

Jackson, Wyoming.

Really, I am confused. Does hubby want you to go with him on a hunting trip? What kind of game? You say big game. Deer? Boar? Elk?

I've tagged along on many a fishing trip (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming). I mostly read or head out adventuring on my own. I MIGHT tag along on a bird hunting trip. I can't imagine blending a couples trip with a big game trip. Will he be on a stand before dawn? Will he go back on the stand until after dark? Is he going to pay hundreds to hunt with a guide for say, between 10 and 2 while you take an art class? I don't want to come off as being ornery, but I just can't get my head around a joint hunting trip if he is big game hunting and you are elsewhere. Most hunters like to concentrate on one thing and not worry about the time.

Just my experience. Perhaps it is different for you. Maybe you can share an example of a joint hunting/other activity vacation that has worked.

When you said big game in this post Jackson Wy came to mind as a possibility of hunting options for him and a town that may be artsy enough to have a class for you.

Montrose is in Colorado. I have been married to this man for 21 years. Yes, he will pay big bucks to kill an elk or big horn sheep and no, we have not tried this joint venture before. You have a point about it being difficult, but I still think it might be possible. We just returned last week from Jackson, WY and there certainly are opportunities there for both, but I guess I want to go someplace we have not been before.

Hi Melanie,

I don't think Montrose will have what you are looking for as far as art classes or galleries. I've been through that area several times and I would not be interested in staying there for a couple of days. You might want to consider Telluride which is 1 1/2 hours south of Montrose. It is gorgeous and you could probably find activities to keep you busy.

If you liked Jackson, you would probably be happier in Telluride than Montrose. I can't recommend any specific galleries or classes but I'm sure there is someone out there who can advise you.

I also don't think of Montrose as an artsy community at all. For art classes, I'd look in Steamboat Springs, or Aspen.

I thought you meant Montrose, CA which is a tiny village close to La Canada... no hunting there... and you're speaking of Colorado... so I am of no help.
