Mohonk Mountain House
I haven't seen any mention of Mohonk Mountain House for some years now. If any of you have stayed there recently and can share your experiences I would be grateful.
Thanks

I have not stayed, but i have hiked on the grounds. there are some great rock scrambles and interesting geological features. The hotel is landmarked, I believe, meals included. 9 hole golf course, afternoon tea, a beautiful garden, maze, lake, it is probably one of the top ten scenic spots in New York State. The hotel is old and quirky, they only started serving alcohol a few years back. It is from another era, even if you don't stay, pay the $12 entrance fee and hike up to Smiley's Tower. When you drive through New Paltz have lunch at the Main Course in the Rite-Aid strip mall.

Thank you very much for the above and the link to the report. It sounds very good. Are there any other similar type of resorts within a couple of hours drive of NYC? I'm look for something which combines sports/hiking features with scenery and holiday.

Mohonk is your best bet. If you would like to go to a new age overnight camp for adults, I'd suggest the Omega Institute.

I loved your videos. Now i'm really regretting we didn't go when the kids were little! Still think they'd love it, though, which leads me to wonder: is it primarily families with young children who would be up there during the summer? I just dont' want my kids (college aged) to feel like they're at a little kids resort....
