Memphis Eats
I will be in Memphis for 3 days next week. I saw an episode of Drive ins, Diners and Dives that showcased "Leonards" on Fox Plaza Drive. I thought I would try that.
Then in another message string, I saw this link:

Leonard's does not show on here.....what would you recommend as the number one place to try? I know this is all opinion, but I will probably go with most votes, and may still go to Leonard's since it is only 15 minutes from where I will be.
One thing to note....time will be a factor. Meaning I will NOT be able to get there before 6:30-6:45pm. I know some of the places said to be there by 5pm. I will be just southeast of the Airport, very close to the MS border, so I prefer not to try to get downtown.

Jennifer, I suggest you check tripadvisor.com. One of the DEs there is a Memphis local named Deb, and she has lots and lots of good information about the city. And I'm curious about one thing: when you say you'd prefer not to try and get downtown, does that mean you're staying some other area of Memphis? If so, you might want to get additional information about that, too, because there are several parts of Memphis that aren't as desirable (or safe) to stay as the downtown area is.

Leonards opens everyday at 11:00 but closes at 2:30 Sunday-Wednesday, Thursday 8:00, Friday and Saturday 9:00 in case you are not aware of hours. If you need to make another choice from the list I would go with Central,Rendevous,Germantown Commisary or Corky's. Corky's probably being the next closest and easiest to find from Leonard's location. Also feel it is in a safer area. Enjoy your trip.

My brother lived in Memphis for several years and used to frequent the Bar-B-Q Shop and Germantown Commissary from that list. I'm not a huge Corky's fan myself. Rendezvous tends to get a lot of tourists but people seem to have a love-it-or-hate-it reaction.

I also am a fan of Corky's. If you can't get to Leonard's during limited lunch dining, Corky's is a great alternative.
A couple of other options are Hog and Hominy and upscale southern destination.
Gus's Fried Chicken in Collierville is a very safe location. Check evening hours. Gus's is superb fried chicken.
Check with your local experts. Unsafe neighborhoods in Memphis are not safe.
